For the couple of folks that asked, yeah... I can confirm that not all 4-bangers come with the immobilizer. Mine did not.

OP, here's hoping that you ar made whole, either way.

Very difficult and time consuming with an immobilizer chip. Infinitely easier to just tow it. A real "pro" isn't interested in spending time tearing a dash apart to bypass security (alarms, immobilizer, etc) they just tow it up the street then into a garage/warehouse or onto a flat bed. Cars these days can't be stolen like they show in movies.

A good driver will be gone in under five seconds EVAN if it were wedged between two cars. Seen it happen. I was impressed. ( he wasn't a thief.)

There is no way to fool an immobilizer in the taco or most any car because it is a specific signal the ecu is looking for problem is it is possible to molest an ecu to not look for the immobilizer signal I haven't yet heard of it being done in toyotas but has been a Honda/Acura problem for many years because the ecu with the bypass is so easy to get since people are swapping newer motors into old cars. If something is worth stealing someone will find a way. There was a guy busted in Denver a few years ago who bought a tow truck and put a bogus recovery company name on it. When he drove off with an alarm going off people just thought it was a repo.

Sorry to hear about the truck man it sucks, has happened to me twice.

I'm sure if the pro has been doing this for a while he can drive off without te chip.

Buddy's coworker had his 2010 Tacoma stolen from work. He said the camera shows a guy on the driver side breaking the window and took him about 3-5 minutes to get the truck started and drove off.

As said before, not all 2nd gens have immobilizer chips. In that case, pop the tumbler out and turn the ignition with a screwdriver.

That sucks! I had mine just vandalized a few months back inside the "secure" parking garage in the complex I live in about a month after I moved in. Busted up my soft top, broke into my survival bin and spewed the stuff all over the parking structure. Broke into the cab thru back window, lucked out they must have been to fat to fit thru there. Felt so creepy for a few weeks to drive it after. Bought hard shell camper shortly thereafter (thanks Damien! Still love it!) and now I do a look over every morning before I get in with my kid. If I ever catch those punk kids that broke in.....

Tho I know the work u put into it, I'm wih the guys on this. Hope u just end up getting a new rig (with LoJack) out of it.

Not a Tacoma, but in college my Honda civic was stolen from the student parking lot. 3 days later I get a call from El Monte PD, they found my car! Just go over to the impound lot to pick it up.

Oh, they failed to mention that fire/emt found it, not PD. Why you ask? Because the thieves set it on fire in a Ralphs parking lot, and fire/emt were first on scene. And yes, it was actually on the news LOL. Yes, totally destroyed.

    Good times.
