Have not gone on a dyno as discussed before. I did not see a need and will not until I upgrade injectors and turn the boost higher.

As someone posted before, do you have specific details on how you dealt with the air injection system? Just disconnecting it will throw codes I'm sure. How was it bypassed?

Also what have you noticed MPG wise? About the same, much worse, slightly better? I'm kinda curious.

Resistor on each plug to bypass the air injection and no CEL, nothing fancy. MPG suffered slightly in traffic due to the need for more fuel needed for when the truck is under load. Highway mileage is better due to the ability to tune for a leaner air/fuel mixture than factory.

I will be watching this, because I am currently building my bottom end for boost, and starting R&D on head work. 20160928_161725.jpg

Glad to see more of us putting some serious thought into this motor. So far, the block is identical to the 3rz, so if thats any implication of the strength we will not be upset with the results!

Does anyone make cams for this motor?

Not that I know of. From what I have gathered, a lot of people are scared to dive into this motor. That being said, I will be approaching the custom cam deal eventually because I am willing to bet there is a hell of a lot of scavenging designed in.

I am just getting my grubby hands on the block to see what can be done and Since the rods are forged from factory, I am using a set of hypereutectic pistons. Also, the 3rz balance shaft delete from LCE will work on our motor.

That great to hear. Crazy this motor has been around for more than 10 years and people are just beginning to touch it. Makes it nice some of the 3rz parts work with it.

The cylinder head is what needs to be addressed. I am going to get to porting on a spare head ive got lying around to see how far I can go before compromising the head. Cfm's or bust!!!!

You guys are the real heroes!

I hope someday there's as many parts for the 2tr as there are for the 22r!

Pistons are of the same construction as the 1GR. Hypereutetic. The rods look much different in design.

1GR OEM piston/rod next to Pauter.

The surface texture of the oem rods is rough. Cast powder metal rods. Where as the forged Pauter rod is smooth.

I do not know either way if the 2TR rods are cast or forged. I just want you to be certain that yours are. Before adding any significant power.

    Carry on good sir.

Caution will be had with this first motor, its more of a proof of concept. The motor this will replace in my DD will be getting the benefits of this first build with all forged internals. Looking to make an aftermarket 3rz crank work. So far, all the journal specs are exactly the same, i just need to get my hands on a 3rz crank to see if its true !!

Holy sh!t! This just keeps getting more interesting.

Are the head bolts the same specs between the two? If so, then ARP stud it up.

A new bolt here, a new bolt there, a new bolt everywhere.
What tuning software are you running? I'm trying to build a twin turbo 3rd Gen but I am running into the issue of tuning software, that modifies the original ECU

Probably the same thread pitch and stud size, but the height is what I need to verify since the head is all new for the 2tr. Either way, I can probably get a set
