nail in tire

Took truck in for 10k service, told them passenger rear seemed to have a leak. They found a nail in an irraparable spot. want to sell me new one for $310. Is it ok to just replace one at 10k miles? would spare work? can i still use 4x4 with one brand new tire?

Should have a warranty on tires. Look in your glovebox for the tire warranty info card

 

yes they are stock - i told them to hold off on ordering since they're out of stock so i can shop around

 

Swap the spare tire over and get a cheap tire to replace the spare

 

What brand tire, and size? Google the tire/size, prices will pop right up.

 

need to look once i pick it up. stock on 2018 limited. i think 18"

 

Plus it's only not repairable if in sidewall. Ask them to see where nail was in tire.

 

they said it was just outside of range. i think Sams does free patching i could get second opinion.
tire has been leaking a long time but steady for a while

Tire Warranty doesn't cover nail damage. It only covers manufacturer defects. not like the warranty that discount tire sells that covers everything under the sun.

$310? I paid barely over twice that for four tires including tax, mount, and road hazard. Take it to a national chain and get it there. Much cheaper, and easier to fix if you happen to catch another nail while travelling out of town. The road hazard policies are better outside of the dealer also. Some stores might even sell you a policy for the other three if you buy the tire with them.

 

Can you get a new tire mounted and balanced cheaper somewhere? Sure. But what is your time worth?

 

Thought they put Michelin on the limited model.
