I doubt we will be able to get the maps via software off the web, would be nice though.

:(I talked to my local dealership and they told me the navi update will come out in November. Toyota will send a post card out to let the owners know that it is available. The price is $220 but from November through January 1st, they will have a special on it for $160. I guess $160 is better than $220. :(

So, who is going to buy the update and figure out how to share it with the community?

When you get the post card will you let us know? I have a "FLTRUCKS Special " so I won't be getting a post card. I'm planning on picking up the upgrade when available. :)

I used to use the Garmins. Great product with lifetime maps. Toyota disappointed me when they said they charge for maps. I will let everyone know when I receive a postcard.

Just got a quote on update. $ 179 for the update, $ 105 for installation. Toyota is out of their fucking mind. Better off with a Garmin Nuvi.

That's crazy. Your phone's Navigation through Google broadcasts through your stereo for free when connected via Bluetooth. You'd think factory nav updates would be something a dealer would throw in for free to build customer loyalty.

Any new information about map updates? Is the ONLY way to get the update is be bent over by the dealer? I have checked everywhere online, and no one seems to offer map updates for the "Entune" type of NAV unit. You can find a 2016 NAVI DVD on Fleabay for around 40 bucks or so, but I'm assuming that and $.50 would buy me a cup of coffee.

    Anyone?

When you bought your truck with nav, did you really expect the dealer to charge a reasonable price for an update? Or did you think they would be free as long as you owned the truck?

I expected a reasonable price. Wife has a 2009 Acura TSX. 3 year update from Acura (3 annual updates) is $ 299. This is a reasonable price in my opinion. Based on this from a competitor, it doesn't seem unrealistic to expect a fair price.

Most Garmin units are "LM", which means Lifetime Maps. You don't pay for updating the maps. It's included in the purchase price.

I would never expect anything reasonably priced from a car dealer, that's how they make money.
But that's just me. It never crossed my mind to get the nav unit, simply because I knew if I wanted updates I would be at the mercy of the dealer. A little homework or ask a salesman a few questions before you buy can save you mucho green backs.

There seemingly has to be a way to push new maps to it....

Anyone tried to "read" the contents of the SD card? I assume its encrypted..

I'd like to be able to update mine at some point. Idiotic imho they went to the trouble to put the information on a MicroSD card (I ASS-ume that is what is on there?); would need to simply be swapped out to update, but charge $175 for a few gig of publically available information (the maps), then $100 to click the new card in?? I'm not sure I even buy the explanation "they need to connect THEIR computer to it". sounds like hooey to me...

I like the nav system. It's worked well for me. I can use Entune app on phone to link to addresses, via internet, with the nav system. I like the stereo system that came with it. If I wanted to go through life with a GPS stuck to my windshield, I would have. But that's just me. Some people choose to cheap out on the options.
