I simply ignore the existence of the in dash nav. And there are decent ways to mount a portable unit. And various map options.

Is this for the SD slot in the dash or do they have some other slot?

I'm not asking for free but anything over $100 is basically robbery. It was a short sighted design flaw that this is not a user-updateable software option in the menu. Toyota can charge whatever they want, it's their business. I won't be paying their outrageous prices and by the sounds of most on here, there won't be many bending over for this rogering by Toyota.

I'll happily use my 4 year old cheesy Garmin suction-cupped to the window and remember it when and IF I buy another Toyota. These are the types of things that lose customers forever.

25 bucks a year, ya I might be willing to pay, but if I can buy a gps for less then they want for a couple of years of updates, then I'll super glue the dam GPS to my window and call it a mod.

With the Bluetooth and wifi capabilities, we should be able to get free updates thru the dam useless Entune app.

So if it's in the radio how do you get access to it? Is a write up available? I could not find one using the search function.

Hi, Have the "Navigation" on 2017 TRD OR built Nov. 16 in TX. Looking at map info on screen you first see Northwest US, then scrolling shows SW, Midwest, and all of US with level of detail shading for each segment. Map SD chip is in lower right of screen, flip tiny cover off from left side, pop out chip. Looking at files on Windows, about 14.9 gig there, most files are dated 5/2016. Files are different from standard Garmin map files, and appear scattered around in folders. Was wondering if you could just use a Garmin format, Topo or non-US maps, but does not look likely. Not sure if you can "update" by copying a newer chip from later vehicle to same size blank SD, but worth a try, unless tied to vehicle? If not, nerds may figure out how to reverse engineer/unlock this, just like unlockers for other maps? Maybe someone will come up with a convert program to make standard vector GPS maps show on the "Navigation" ? Will be looking at GPS forum for this.
Reminds me of the need for a AUX audio input on Gen 1 Tacos. A bright engineer figured out how to do it thru remote CD changer plug on back of head unit, and sold adapter/circuit board for 20+ bucks.

I just purchased a SD navigation card from a member on Ebay. The Ebay member sells genuine Toyota SD cards for $90. My navigation was running on 2013 maps. It took 3 days for it to arrive. I just pulled out the old card and stuck the new one in. My radio automatically detected the new card. Then the radio rebooted itself then it begin to update software. The process took about 10 min then it restarted. I'm running on 2016 maps now. I noticed some changes. One, I only had two options when I hit the compass button. North and South was only shown horizontal on screen. If I hit it 3 times the map is shown flat vertical. Two, the streets names would only show on the bottom of screen when a destinations was set. Now with normal driving it shows street names with speed limits. That's all I noticed so far. I don't know why the stealership is price gouging us for the installation process. When they don't do jack but stick it in and walk away. CRAZY!!!

In theory, you could plug the SD card into a laptop- and pull the files from the card, just as you would with a camera. Then just post the files for everyone

Do you know if this update, updates the Etune Software features or just the Navigational features? I would think it will update, everything? Thanks.

Get the update; make an image of the SD Card; share with friends or everyone pitch in 1 dollar; someone get the update; make image and share_ My advice is for entertainment purposes only as this would consider stealing lol, but damn nearly 200 bucks for an update; NO WAY!

You can get a much better GPS unit for cheaper with lifetime maps.

lol it would be nice if you could load a new updated garmin version, over the entune one.

Looks like that link was before, Entune (boo).

Going to see about installing one of those new updated SD cards off eBay. Looks like the best bet and save 70 bucks, off the 160 bucks; from the stealership.

I just installed the new SD card yesterday. I bought it from eBay for $90 (plus the Ohio sales tax I will owe when I do my taxes next year). The new card is OE184, while the old one was OE182. My Audio code went from 0101D1 to 0101D4. It was not necessary to start the engine. I just turned the key to the accessory position after swapping cards.
