I've been perusing stickers and the "build" pages of toyota.com and haven't seen anything on the navigation system. I know with the 3rd gens, you had to get the Premium Audio upgrade and that gave you the nav system (which was forever, but free updates for 2 years I think, after which you had to subscribe for continuous updates to the maps).

So, what's the deal with the 4th gens? We all get nav for free?!?

I saw on a Tundra forum you have to pay to use Nav after the trial expires. Hopefully someone with a 4th Gen can chime in.

I believe it is like their other vehicles where you get it with the premium or technology upgrade. But without it you still can get navigation but it is subscription based.

Pay to use built in, or use carplay/android auto.

Apple Car Play and Android Auto put the Toyota navigation to shame, I don't know why anyone would use it.

Because I don't have or want a smart phone.

They're destroying civilization in case you hadn't noticed :)

I'm sure you're right, as far as the 4runner goes, but with the Tacoma, if you had navigation in your system, you didn't have to pay, you only pay for the updating of the maps, which seems pretty useless to me. The Nav system itself would work forever for free. That's why I was asking about the 4runner.

But pay subscription services aren't destroying civilization... I'm just giving you a hard time.

That being said, I'd gladly trade you locations and cell phones if I could, and one day in retirement, I might anyway. Montana, Idaho, Wyoming, I'm moving in one of these days and I promise to bring no riff raff with me.

We usually just make all the riff raff drive straight to Portland. ;-)

    Montana...4th largest state and 47th in population....ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

Mine came with a free one-year subscription. After that, their "Drive Connect" service is apparently 15.00/month. I've used it and it gets confused sometimes. Despite having a year to test it out, I find myself using the more reliable (and free) option of Waze in Android Auto. YMMV.

^^ Dynamic Navigation has been deprecated. No longer is there a two year map update for ~ $170. There is now a suite of "Connected Services":

    https://www.toyota.com/connected-services/connected-services-plans/

All of these are monthly subscription based now. As the above poster describes, Drive Connect is the navigation based part of that suite that you are referring to. After your year free trial, you now have to pay the equivalent of $180 dollars/year for current maps.

Ted Kaczynski was right. We should all disappear into shacks deep in the woods.

That's like saying guns are the root cause of mass shootings and other news frenzy murders.

    Dumb.

Back to NAV. A Garmin GPS with lifetime updates and traffic is what you need.

For 2024, the turbocharger is on a free trial for 30 days. Afterwards, your option to pay 3.99 per month, or revert to a 135hp NA 4 cylinder.

I’d consider dropping Disney+ for that one.
