My observations in countries with poor traditional infrastructure and poorly functioning governance or monopolies is just the opposite of destroying. You see how people below elite tiers in those places use the mobile phones for commerce, banking, and education. It is amazing. When there is not grid or reliable wireless telecom they also use them with WiFi from satellite Internet. It is really the opposite of destroying civilization. It is how a lot of places have had their rapid rise to being more competitive.

Apple and Alphabet (Google) give the most popular and arguably best for free, and they have the ability to do it offline. Some great specialty products also have offline capabilities.

The main marketplace change is automakers going away from technology that goes obsolete and has a poor history of updates or just abandonment. Also those updates having costs and not always best choices for locations. This does not apply to all automobiles but this trend means the ones who lied about spying on you can't do it if they don't have the radio working in the vehicle.

Good riddance to the old crappy way. I had to deal with that with fleets and business. On top of crappy and inflexible, it was more expensive.

I don't get it. Just tether your phone and use navigation on your phone through CarPlay / Android Auto.

Big corporates are manipulating benign consumer decision making, they loaded the product with many unnecessaries by default (while buyers have to add their needed items after the purchase), and the product come with a predetermined obsolescence term in its life span.
We ended up buying lots of trash that they sell in a way, while they also advocates earth saving theory.
    You’re correct, we’re losing it!

So my wife's 2024 Tacoma's free nav subscription expired and fug Toyota's ridiculous subscription fees. She's fine with using google maps from her phone.

But now every time she starts the truck up she has to hit one of the buttons to get rid of Toyota's spam startup screen. Has anyone figured a way to disable this stupid startup screen from their 4th Gen Tacoma?:

I will send a pic after work, but on my truck if I am listening to the radio and turn off the truck or park for the night and when I start it back up it says loading information and then asks to activate and the tuner comes back on with the station I was last listening to .

On my 2015 bmw x5 I’m able to code the splash screen in my infotainment screen along with various different features. Has anyone able to code our tacomas?

On startup my shows the screen for a few moments, but then Android Auto automatically kicks in (I have the settings in the phone set to auto-launch it) and it immediately takes over the screen and lands me on my expected AA navigation app and music player. So it was annoying for a week or two but now I don't even process it because AA is automatically on the screen within 10-30 seconds.

It's been 2 weeks and the spam screen still shows up. Dealer said to call Toyota and they passed it off to one of their depts. The Toyota Brand Engagement Dept stated the screen will not go away unless we pay the subscription.

@MtnFisher That screen will be there forever, based on my experience in the Tacoma and other recent Toyotas. Your options are: ignore it, turn the display off when you're not using it (I do this a lot), or use CarPlay / Android Auto. If using the latter, be sure to click the double-arrows in the upper left to go "full screen."
