Does anyone have a good navigation unit installed in the newer taco's, i have an 09 and looking to put one in but not sure which one to go with, would like it to work with the steering controls but doesnt have to, if anyone has pictures or suggestions it would be highly appreciated, thank you.

i don't know if this makes a difference or not but most of the head units that have gps in them will know when you are moving and will block DVD playback... personally i'd go with a cheaper dvd player like the pioneer avh-p4000dvd (i'm most likely going to get this one) and get a garmin external... it will be overall cheaper in the long run and you can take the gps out and take it with you if you ever fly somewhere and get a rental car. also you can get an adapter from http://www.pac-audio.com/ to make the steering wheel controls work the the aftermarket stereo.

pioneer units are oober easy to bypass to play while driving. all i had to do for mine was ground the parking brake wire from the harness to the chassis ground...that was all

EXACTLY!!!! and some of these new headunits (i remember it was one of the pioneer AVIC units) put a gyro in them so it would tell you gforce when going around corners or some shit... well there is no bypass for that! and now all of these units have gps, they'll know when you're moving and restrict playback... thats why i'm going with the pioneer avh-p4000dvd, that and it can play dvix movies!!! just think how many mp3s you could fit on a dual layer dvd... who needs an ipod???:D

    YES!!
I had the Eclipse AVN6620 and if I'm not mistaken, the steering controls do work straight out of the box.

I have a Scion Nav unit that I bought from a yard.
It was pretty much plug and play in my 05, just needed the dbl din bezel.
Steering wheel controls work and the DVD while driving is overridden.

I have the Eclipse AVN6620 and the steering wheel controls work fine. Eclipse is used by Toyota for aftermarket purchases from dealers. But I have heard that some people have had issues with newer tacos and the bluetooth kit interfering somehow with the steering wheel controls. I haven't had any problems with my '07 though.

Hello all, First time poster here. Just picked up an 09 DC 4x4 Sport last night. Too soon for first impressions still.

First thing I want to do is replace the factory head unit. I want in dash navigation and Sirius. Video and Blutooth would be nice but not necessarily needed.

I also want to retain the use of my factory controls.

Any recommendation on a unit that will do this?

    Thanks!

I'm partial to pioneer but many manufacturers have bluetooth and are compatible with both xm and sirius... i'd go down to your local car audio store and check them out and see which brand you like better and see which decks meet all of your criteria. I've already given my ideal set-up eariler in this thread.

yeah yeah... sure it can, but why waste your time converting them for itunes, and do you change the resolution (smaller) for your ipod? i can leave the videos in SD quality and not do anything, I just make sure i download the movie in dvix format, burn the files to disc and i'm ready to go... i've considered the ipod route but i don't like itunes enough to have to deal with it, and besides do you really need 150 hours of video with you?:p

by converting them to "ipod format" YOU ARE converting them for use with itunes... i'm very familiar with Super, it supports many formats but it's terribly slow, and by converting to "ipod format" you're lowering the resolution and the quailty of the video (noticeable on a larger screen) i'm not saying your way is wrong, i'm just saying i'd rather choose simplicty and speed to the device, and quality over having alot of stuff on one portable device. If I was going to watch a lot outside my truck, it would be much more appealing to me.

btw, i have 600gb of movies and tv shows ;)
