Find a donor truck and strip all of the ac components off of it. You may have the best luck buying a wrecked one with AC

would have been better to find a truck that already had an AC system, as it's a big job to add one, but it's feasible.
A new system will cost you in the thousands $$$, so the best is to find a donor truck then strip and transplant the AC system on yours

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
I bought a small truck in 1984 without a/c and honestly I’d start with a pop up sunroof. It made all the difference letting the hot air escape. My roof was open or off most of the time

Inverter with a portable air conditioner plugged into it.

If it were me I’d start with a donor truck. My compressor grenaded a couple years ago. I replaced everything. Parts alone were about $750. I did the timing belt etc at the same time. The two jobs took 13 hours....that’s with an existing AC system.

That’s a quick way to fry your electrical system. Air Conditioners use a crazy about of electricity that a 12v inverter can not handle.

What I see people do is run a portable gasoline generator in the bed, and use a residential A/C unit through the back window.

    Super ghetto, but it works.

I’m sure a more elegant way would to be a portable unit in the back seat if you have an extended cab. Otherwise that’s where we are at right now.

I just replaced all of the components of the Freon part of the system, Denso compressor, aftermarket evaporator and condenser. Less than $600. You would still need lines and the electronics. With the right donor vehicle, totally doable for around a grand??

That's a good point. In my head I was thinking of my truck with dual batteries. Every accessory I've added is totally isolated from the truck. Even so it would probably kill the battery in no time flat. I know with mine you can run an electric chain saw off it and still kill the battery with the truck running...need more batteries and solar panels. Or a gas powered chain saw.

The generator is a better ghetto idea.

Are the mounting points all there for AC components? I would imagine so. But who knows.
