I still dont think you get it man. You are paying top dollar for a midsized truck that lacks many standard features of other brands.

Heated seats, heated mirrors, autoup down windows.. are considered status symbols?!?

The fanciest car I have owned was a 15 STi Limited and my wife’s current car ,Kia Sorento which is also a limited trim has just about everything you could imagine to all the way down to heated and cooled REAR seats.. My truck is a base but has power windows and locks and that’s it.. It was hard to adjust at first as you grow used to all those things like back up cameras, push button start keyless entry, heated seats etc.. There is something of a simple beauty to having a stripped down vehicle without all the added BS.. I do wish the truck had a better LSD in the back for winter driving but really that’s about it.. I do agree the Tacoma in general is lacking in the frill department compared to the other brands out there. BUT trucks are getting so far away from their intended purpose these days. Which is partially why new ones cost a fortune because people want them to feel like a caddy while the take it to the grocery store.. In my opinion take out all that fancy crap give me a rubber floor, manual shift lever for the 4wd and better suspension.. Leave the rest for the minivans..

Yes thanks, I own one.. I am basically saying a Base Taco with the drivetrain goodies from a TRD OFF road would be best mix IMO.... Function over luxury.. Like a truck should be..

I think a truck can be both. I have an f350 with the king ranch pkg that I love. It’s got luxury items but can handle the toughest job thrown at it. And no I don’t mind mud on the floors, because I clean my rigs.
You could certainly order any truck you want as basic as they will build it with the toys you want i( if available) with the basic pkg.
But Toyota builds the trucks in packages (most) main stream Americans want !
I can’t speak for the Canadian builds, but I imagine they would want universal truck warranties for all, then complain about getting it anyway :). JK

I see what your saying and manufacturers will never please everyone, this was simply my own personal feelings of what I want in a truck. I am sure that F350 is a thing of beauty, but also came with a hefty price tag i imagine.. I think the OP can rest assured that if he gets the taco it will be a great reliable truck for what it is intended for..

Yep on both accounts on the F350.
There are always going to be things each of us want or don’t want in a vehicle.
I forone want a beer tap and a filtration system that will clear all smells so I can smoke a cigar while driving :).

Standard features??? I have never given a 2nd thought to any of those. Again I don't view those as necessities and certainly I don't feel left out because my '11 doesn't have them. Bells and whistles are "nice to haves" it doesn't make or break the vehicle I buy/drive.

We think the same way. I'm not a fan of half the shit they put into vehicles now a days. Like lane departure, heads up display, yada yada.

What erks me is that Toyota still commands a premium price without any of the premium features.

I look at as I am buying a reliable vehicle and not worry about the features (although the heated seats in 4runner are nice). I bought my '11 in spring 2012 with a little over 10K miles on it. Now 6 years later here I am with just over 85K miles and knowing I have a lot of life left in the truck.
