So I have to replace my engine in my 08 Tacoma 4dr 4x4 4.0L V6. Was driving today, and the oil light came on and the engine started knocking loud. Had a mechanic look at it, and he said i need a crank shaft and bearings along with rod bearings. Oooorrrrrrrrr....... maybe someone has a wrecked taco that they are willing to sell the engine out of. I live in Phoenix AZ, but I'm in Santa Fe NM area broken down right now. Any help would be great!!

This is what I got from him today....
"Picked up a used engine out of Albuquerque for $2500 + $100 core. So I'm going to put the used engine in, and keep the old engine and rebuild it. Then sell the rebuilt engine."

Man you replaced the engine and it was bad. That sucks! Feel for you. Is this a truck like you have drive every day to get to work? If you need to buy some time.... I hate to say this... Drain the oil, measure it, should be approximately 5 quarts. if it's less your screwed. Oil is sludging up. If it's 5 quarts or more, look at the oil, do you see 'glitter' from metal? Put a strong magnet through the oil, how much metal sticks to the magnet?

Putting Lucas additive (white bottle, looks like gear oil bottle, thick like syrup) may buy you some time, if it is your only means of transportation.

Buying an engine...low miles 2007-2009 1GR-FE from an FJ with VIN number starting with 'J'

    Good luck man!

The truck is getting a engine swap. The original engine crapped out and he is 1000 miles from home. He was hoping we could locate a engine for him. He found one and is now doing the repair.

Ok guys. Here's an update. Picking up a used engine from LKQ in Albuquerque for $2200, and $100 core. I'll be keeping the old engine, and completely rebuild it. Then I'll just sell it.

Are you expecting to make a profit by rebuilding your old motor and selling it? Personally, I wouldn't touch a motor that was "just rebuilt by some guy".

6inch lift sitting on bilstein coilovers. Lexus is300 studs in front to keep stock wheels, general grabber red letters, nfab front bumper.
This. Now, if I was gonna rebuild it and keep it for myself I would do something cool like @Torspd did.

What year is the LKQ and how many miles? If your going to rebuild your old one, depending on year and miles on LKQ engine, maybe consider swapping your old rebuilt engine back in and selling the LKQ.

When you do tear yours down, when you find what caused the failure, if you can, please share.

Glad to hear that you got this worked out, that's a tough situation to be in.

The engine from LKQ is a 2007 with 160k miles. I personally won't be rebuilding the engine myself. I have a friend who works for a mechanic shop in Scottsdale AZ, and he'll be the one doing the rebuild. As far as price, I've been seeing rebuilt engines running anywhere between $3000 and$5000. O don't plan on raping anyone by any means on the price. Lol
