Sounds like you've made an attempt to be friendly. I'd wave every now and then and leave it at that. The rest is up to him.

I've worked with a few people over the years that looked for an insult in everything anyone said. If you look hard enough, you'll find something. And I think that black people can be just as racist as white people. But if you think that they don't have to deal with any racism these days then you're very mistaken. It's sad to say that, but true. My personal opinion,if you're a jerk, you're a jerk, doesn't matter what color/creed/religion/race/ethnic background you come from.

If you really liked the guy and want to patch it up,just stop over or catch him in his yard and be open and honest about it. Say hey ,I miss talking with my neighbor. If he responds positively, then by all means just let the situation slip by and move on. If he still holds it against you, then let HIM slip by and move on.

Bottomline like everyone else said, the guy took it to heart when he should have easily been fine and dandy. Words must really hurt this guy's soul.

If you really wanna be friends I would just keep waving and whatnot, maybe invite him over for a football game. Otherwise you said you already talked to him about it, so doesn't seem like he wants nor cares to listen. It's like Brian trying to be friends with Quagmire in Family Guy lol.

Around here, hardly anyone is chummy with their neighbors. It's a privacy thng and good fences make good neighbors. I would just move on and forget about it man.

In 30 seconds this will either make it or finish it. If he can't look you in the eye and say what's on his mind then there is nothing left to do. YOU are the one that to me seems to need closure on this. This might just be the way it is. If it doesn't come together then just wave like you always do. There's always new day. Another chance for people to change. You need to continue as you always have. Good luck. I wish the best for all involved

Must have missed this thread earlier.

Your neighbor is a victim and he will always see himself as a victim--the ever oppressed. The oversensitivity of some poeple concerning a multitude of issues is ridiculous nowadays. The double-standard is disgusting and it's not your problem, OP, it's his. He wants to live with the chip on his shoulder... so let him. He will be miserable the rest of his days, whining to himself and anyone who will listen about how he has been victimized.

Bottom-line, ignore the shithead... no matter what you do, he will never let it die.

Screw him, if he is not intelligent enough to understand the context your boss used brotha, then he is not worth your time. And God dang, do not invite him over for bbq, chicken, or ribs. Don't have watermelon or kool-aid to drink either. If he couldn't figure your boss correctly, it would be 10x's worse if you served those food items and invite him over. He would think you were the biggest racist he has ever met, and you would have no idea why. Just do burgers, lemonade, and strawberry shortcake, those should be safe unless there are stereotypes attached to any of those that I am unaware of.
