I drive a 2016 pre runner SR5 and I haven't done anything to it yet. One of the first things I want to do is to get some better tires with better tread. I've got 16 inch rims and I want to avoid getting new ones because that would be out of budget. I'm not against a lift though. I would just like to know who makes the best tire I could use everyday and for some light/moderate off-roading that fits my specifications. (currently I have P245/75R16)
    Thanks!

Cooper at3's are quiet and all terrain. But just go all out and get stt pro's.

265/75-16 is the size you'd want.

BFG KO2 is the go-to choice around TW.
Cooper ST Maxx, Toyo AT II, Falken AT3W, Nitto terra grappler, General grabber... there are so many options to choose from.

I have an SR5 4x4 and went with 265/75/16 Michelin Defender LTX M/S on the stock rims. They're not an all terrain but since I do 99% of my driving on pavement they suit my needs well.

Highly recommend Falken Wild Peak A/T3w. Nice sidewall tread, great price, pretty good fuel economy. Best of all it looks pretty aggressive and serves for everyday driving.

I'd go with 265/75/16's, or at least 265/70/16's. Also, Firestone Destination a/t's are a good on-off road tire & very quiet too....

    Highway/Dirt: Michelin LTX AT2 or Cooper AT3

Dirt/Off-road: Cooper ST Maxx or Cooper STT Pro

I run ST Maxx. 90% paved road use. Very quiet and ride smooth. But E Load so they are stiff.

You will find more info on tires than you'll want to know on TW....
1.Determine your usage on/off road percentage,
2.Determine the size you want (likely 265/75/16 as others mentioned)
    3.Determine your budget.
    4.....
    5. Profit.

Edit: or just get 265/75/16 Cooper ST Maxx as they are clearly the best tire ever.

I went with General Grabber AT2s in 265/70-R16 in SL load rating. E load rating is more durable, but heavier. The tires look great and have done well in the minor off roading I've done. They are just a touch louder than the stock 245s that were on my SR5. I like the tires.

This guy is completely wrong and has no idea what he is talking about.... or he has a slightly differing opinion about tires than I do. Tires are incredibly subjective.

    or that. clearly.

exactly the same here and fully agree. STMaxx are an impressive tire if you can do the E's.

So the st maxxx with e load will work good with a stock '17 Tacoma? Not too heavy or anything?

i have them and love them, absolutely would buy again. i think the pro suspension's soft damping helps but i find it a perfect combination. i run stock tire size on 17's: 265/65-17

also after the chalk test my pressures are 30 front and 28 rear when cold. too high and it's a miserable drive with poor wet traction and bad tire life, so make sure you do the chalk test.
