    Hello Everybody,

I have a 2014 Toyota Tacoma TRD Sport long bed that I am looking to bring up 3"s. I have never lifted a truck before and would like to do a suspension lift since it would be better for the long running of the truck. I do plan to take it for trail expeditions. I have been looking at around at the various lifts that are available but I am lost on what I should really be focusing on. I have been going through the forums and my head just spins from reading all the various input thrown into them. I would appreciate any input thrown my way as I just want to make sure that everything fits together smoothly. Appreciate it y'all, keep on Rollin.

Check out this thread. It kind of explains the different types of lift you can do. You can go cheap and just get blocks or AALs, but you'll sacrifice performance. Or you can spend the extra money to replace everything which can get expensive based on what brand you buy but it'll perform much better.

I have plans too but I will be moving west here in the next month or so. I hope to find another community out there and be able to get their knowledge to help.

I have looked on toytec and only saw one 3" suspension lift. I may have overlooked something on that page though.

almost all are 3". That's kind of the magic number on the 2gens. Because once you go over that you really get into a lot more. The description on the individual lift will tell you the amount.

SO assuming no additional front end weight (bumpers, skids, winch etc......

best decent budget lift would be (quite similar to what I have and a lot of others too)

    up front
    bilstein 5100 shocks
    OME 887 coils
LR UCAs (likely needs UCAs at / above 2.5")

    rear
    dakar leaf pack
    bilsten shocks
    extended break lines

a step up would be the OME shocks, same springs, and same leafs

Or you can go fox, icon, king etc if you got a fat wallett......

You can also do what I'm doing. I don't have the money to upgrade my suspension all at once so I'm breaking it down in phases.

Phase I: Bilstein 6112 for the front and 5160 for the rear. This gives me the ability to lift but I can also keep it at stock height until I purchase all the other necessary components

Phase II: UCAs, Leaf pack, brake lines. This will complete the suspension package and give me the 3" lift I want

    Phase III: Tires.

By doing it this way I'm not breaking my bank and it's a gradual adjustment to give me plenty of time to research parts and vendors. I just completed phase 1 last week.

Also if you're going 3", I would recommend whole new leaf pack. Just fyi.

Extra weight would be added on at a later time, yes. I am looking to get a sturdier front and rear to help protect the truck

when you get extra weight, would just have to switch out front springs to OME 886 springs (heavier spring rate)

So would It bet better to just grab the OME 886s and have them already set for when the weight is being applied? Or would that cause issues in the future?

For bang for the buck, I'd say go OME with LR UCA's and a Dakar leaf pack. It should give you everything you'd need without going too crazy on the wallet. I'll second using Headstrong when you get around to buying.

you could do 886's from the start, would be a rough ass ride though. some people have done it. I went through 885 springs, then 887 springs, now on 886 springs lol

Due to the fact that there wouldn't be any weight on the springs?

right on. my bumper, 3 skids, and sliders likely added 250 lbs +/- to the front end, no winch yet....
