I purchased a 1 owner 06 prerunner crew cab with 126k a while back. Started having engine codes P0012 camshaft position over retarded bank 1 and P0022 camshaft position over retarded bank 2. The original owner must have never flushed the engine because it had sludge buildup. Things that were done 1) changed PCV valve that was sticking
2)replaced both variable valve timing solenoids (oil control valves) 3) replaced both camshaft position sensors. Engine oil is fresh with new filter and is not sluggish or stalling and seems to be running fine except for the codes. I clear codes with scan tool and drive it a while and 1 or the other code will randomly pop up. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Worn timing gears or a chain may cause the issue.
    Have you inspected the timing?

It's a stretched timing chain. Replace all 3 while youre in there, along with tensioners and gear idler.

Did you replace the filters for the variable valve solenoids?
If they are gummed up you won't get much oil flow to the solenoids.

You can see the locations in the image below:

No i haven't checked the timing chain or the filters for the solenoids. Just replaced the solenoids. Mechanic pulled both solenoids and said they were all gunked up and replaced them. Will have mechanic check out chains and replace if needed and check filters for solenoids.

We have also pressure tested for oil pressure at 3 different times with 3 different gauges and all 3 times the oil pressure was in factory specs at startup and idle and did not drop past specs at idle for atleast 30 minutes of idleing.

I'm suprised he didn't check the filters when he replaced the Oil Control Valves (OCV's).
