Nothing at all happens when you turn the key the first time? No noises/ lights/ starter? Then it starts up normal the second time?
It could be your starter, but it sounds like there could be deeper electrical issues. Need more info.

First guess out of my amateur mind is a failing P/N switch, but I agree...need more details. Does it do this every single time you want to start it, without fail....100% of the time?

Also wonder if it's not going fully into park. Our work trucks do that pretty regularly...dirt gets in the linkage and it wont go all the way in. If you think about it sometime, before trying it the first time, put it in neutral instead of park.

There was a factory service bulletin for earlier trucks I wonder if yours is included.

Sorry to be a thread nazi but using “help” in your title is generally frowned upon and used for people who are stranded on a trail or somewhere. Might want to change it

If a MT the clutch has got to be on the floor fro it to start, Oh wait, if it is an auto. it must be completely in park. And I guess the Taco's still have starter solenoids. Shoot, I don't know what is going on.

Listen carefully when you turn the key and nothing happens. If you hear a very small click then nothing I would almost bet money that the starter solenoid is in need of a repair kit. Cheap fix.

You can buy the contacts and plunger new from Nations Starter and Alternator for about 30 - 35 bucks. Much cheaper than hundreds for a rebuilt POS from Autozone etc.

    https://www.nationsstarteralternator.com/Starter-Rebuild-Kits-s/37.htm

Check this video for rebuilding the solenoid on the starter.
