I have my 70 lb female GSD in the double cab and she fits compfy back there by herself. I have a dog hammock back there and it works pretty well for her. She normally lays down back there. So if you have two dogs trying to lay down it could potentially be an issue. And sometimes she will turn around to find a good spot so two dogs could possibly get in the way of one another.

I know some of you have different versions of Amazon dog hammocks / seat protectors.

    Example: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01N4OQQSJ/ref=mp_s_a_1_1

Interested to see how you like the one you have? There are a ton of options on amazon but I want one that fits the 3rd Gen DC well and possibly protects the door panels as well. My dogs have no boundaries.

I've seen guys in 2nd Gens make plywood platforms but I like the idea of being able to fold it up when I need to.

Anyone ever seen one that lets you utilize one seat in the back as well?

    Thanks for any help!

I have one and it's great.

My recommendation would be to grab one that has quick clip disconnects so you can easily unclip it from the headrest. The way mine is, you have to slide the loop open wider and pull it up and over the headrest and then do that whole reverse process to put it back on.

It's not a huge deal but my gf has one with the clips and it's much less annoying to get on and off.

Even if you can't most dogs contrary to people's beliefs LOVE riding in the bed, my brother has a double cab short bed 2004 and he has all 7 of his ride in the bed and they love it. So if it comes to that I'm sure they wouldn't mind. (Unless you live in a state where it's like a snow downpour or freezing haha! Not bashing anyone just throwing out what I thought!

I'm sure my dog would love riding in the bed. But he's small enough that riding in the cab isn't an ordeal. I live in a city and traffic is terrible and the risk of getting into an accidental (specifically getting rear ended ) is higher. The bed is a giant crumple zone.

I got the full BedRug. It holds up very well even when the boys get wet and dirty. I also purchased a small fan and mounted it with Velcro to the BedRug and you can plug it into the bed outlet, to circulate the air and keep them comfortable.

Look into the besttop camper shells. Like a jeep top with the windows and they zip out, both sides and the back. It also folds down like a jeep top if you still need to use the bed. I'll post another picture tomorrow but my dog loves it! And no hair in the cab lol

I had a long and tall shepherd who took up most of the back seat space. It was very tight back there with our medium size dog sharing the space. With the seat back folded, he had to duck to keep his head from touching the ceiling. With age, jumping up onto the folded seat through the rather small back door of the double cab was difficult, and folded or upright, there wasn't much room for him to turn around. My dogs now enjoy the interior space of a full size crew cab, and we all enjoy the added comfort during the 900 mile drive out to the cottage, which we do 5 plus times a year. It's nice to read that so many people carry their companions in the comfort and safety of the cab, and I'm glad that the Tacoma seems to work for most. Amazing little (mid sized) trucks.

I have a softopper (similar to bestop) with a bed mat. Dogs love it. Lots of room , keeps the fur out of the truck, and unzips seven ways from sunday for ventillation. Oh and bonus their half the price of a fiberglas top and you dont need help to collapse / remove it.

My partner has a 90lb German, and I have a 55lb mutt, the german takes up about 80% of the backseat (when they are folded down). I guess it just depends on if your dogs like to be close together. I personally don't like it when the German hogs the backseat, but it's not like my dog's gonna die. I feel like she deserves more space in MY truck.... meh.
