Here is what I was talking about, to free up restriction. Now, this was done on the URD y-pipe. Same applies for the factory y-pipe.

The catback exhaust that is factory, is 2.25" OD. If you install an aftermarket exhaust, it will be either 2.5" or 3" depending.

Where each bank of the y-pipe comes together, it bottle neck right before it goes into the catback. Being that the URD y-pipe is a even 2.25" OD, mandrel bent, it is even more apparent the restriction before going into the Catback. Keep in mind, your exhaust is only as large as the smallest opening.

Since the factory Y-pipe is of multiple sizes and not mandrel bent, there is even more restriction in it than the one in the URD Y.

    Here is Toon's adaptation:

You can see how it tapers smaller to the outlet, which is on the wood.

    IMG_0154_44b6bedc88153e61bcf109a41113c15ed8dd8def.jpg

Afterwards you can see how it is nice and equal in dimension, with a V-band flange on it.

    IMG_0157_09f1d230205aa4b287b62249adf21a1dcf3adf6b.jpg

Here are the outlet size differences, between the flange that was cut off, and the exhaust now.

Here is a good shot from Outlaw7's build.

    Comparing the two Y-pipes.

You can still clearly see the restriction. Necessary on the URD Y-pipe, to maintaing its flexibility to mount to many different exhaust forms, including the factory one. Very smart actually.

Some more shots of what he did to his URD Y.

It really does open up the flow. Like taking a restrictor out of the exhaust.

Well, Aeroturbine isn't being made any more, but if you can get a resonated one of theirs, you are really lucky. All 304 stainless, and no packing to blow out.

Bassani, Magnaflow, Vibrant Performance, Dynomax, address a few more.

I'm gonna buy up that patent for AT dammit! All mentioned are good companies, though Bassani doesn't get a lot of talk on here, and honestly I never considered one on my V6 anyway. I seriously considered Corsa for a while, and will likely run it if I ever get a sports car. I wouldn't rule out Wicked Flows (made by Bear River Converters) for our trucks either.

Since some people wont answer your question, I dont mind answering it

I have run Flow master, Dynamax and just got a MagnaFlow and I like MagnaFlow on my current truck

Each different muffler will have it`s own sound, many shops will put on several different ones and let you hear them if you have them do the work

    Good luck in the decision

I love my dynamax. Great sound. Headers and exhaust made nice gains on my 01 2.4L that I could feel. So did the underdrive pulley. What gear ratio's are you guys running on your Forced induction taco's. I would like to go a lil faster top end and not feel like the truck is topping out at 90-95 mph.

The cool thing abiut 4 and 8 cylinder engines is that you can run Tri-Y headers for an increase in torque over regular long tube headers. Tri-Y headers offer better scavenging.

^^^ Which style were you able to go with?

If you're going to go through that much trouble to change the flange where it meets the cat-back pipe, why would you leave the standard-restricted flanges where the Y-pipe meets the header? :notsure:

(also don't think I'd have the balls to cut up a $500 Y-pipe)
