When I come to a mildly hard stop I can feel a small thud. I was thinking it was just axle wrap but after taking a look I found my trans moving a little and some play in the drive shaft. Here are videos of both , can you tell me if this is normal or do I need to replace? I believe the center support bearing is shot but Im unsure of the trans mount. Thank you

This is exactly me as well. I'm guessing both trans mount and carrier bearing are issues for your truck and probably mine too. Didn't I see a thread here about the bearing? Off to go look ...

    Edit: Why yes, here: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/how-to-replacing-carrier-bearing.260283/

That thread says about 1/8" of play is normal?

I would replace both & U-joints are usually due about the same time carrier bearings are in my experience.
I just put a new tranny mount in my 91 toy very similar style and it doesn't have any play like that.
Got mine on parts geek. Anchor brand seems well build and fit well.

By the looks of the mount, you are 2wd, correct?

If so, I'd go with OEM.

If you're 4wd, do this mod and it will cure the problem.

i personally have faith in after market parts. rarely have problems if any, and they're usually found before installation or even the final sale.

On the fence a little with trans mount, the rubber looks good & intact but the bolt movement concerns me, depends if the bolt is molded/grommetted into the mount itself...

As far as the carrier goes , Toyota has no real specs for operation parameters, it is assumed that as long as the rubber isn't torn/ the bearing isn't squealing or froze up, it's good, not unusual to see up to 7/16" play in 2 piece shaft...

Here is the link to what Marlin does:

Only thing I did was incorporate his idea into my 4wd trans mount.
    Works like a charm.

    Good luck.

You sure it's not axle wrap ?? That "thud" you mention is text book condition & if your leafs are stock I'm betting it is axle wrap...

My sons transmission mount bolt is just finger tight. When I found it it was completely loose. I cold just push it up and out. I looked and looked at it but I have no idea what it's purpose is. I am fosure going to do the motor mount bolt mod on both our trucks.
If anyone can explain what that bolt does I am all eyes. Cant say ears cause I am technicall reading this.

So what is the effect of this mod? I have a stubborn drive train vibration even after replacing u-joints, carrier bearing, and having the drive shaft balanced. Is this a cure for that?

You could purchase a couple of cheap u bolts and clamp them to the springs forward the axle. If the clunk goes away it's springs. Search "Goodbye axle wrap mod". This mod is only temporary, the springs continue to weaken over time.
