You still have the benefit of OEM mounts and the bolt gives you the benefit of solid as it limits the travel created by engine torque.

Best and cheapest mod I've done.

Unfortunately, the U-bolts did little to help my 2000 Prerunner with 170K miles. I'm replacing engine and trans mounts soon.

My Prerunner has more than a little bump, too. It's harsh and the movement of the driveline that creates the bump feels very long. The shifter looks like it moves a foot and a half between accel and decel. I've already overhauled the driveshaft, including replacing the center support bearing and lubing the slip yoke splines, replaced the leaf springs, and installed the u-bolts. I have a feeling these mounts will make a difference, although I've given up hope of the thunk ever going away completely.

If it does help and you leave them on I would suggest going to ACE or some other hardware store and buying some stainless nylock nuts.

So the u bolt did reduce the axle wrap a little bit but not much, my leafs are too far gone for this band aid to fix it, im guessing. I took them off because im a little worried it could puncture the gas tank if it were to loosen up and creep forward

You've got the stock 3 leaf w/overload, If it were me I'd hit the wrecking yard, look for some Dodge dakota/ or the smaller dodge ram , these springs are usually stout without much ARC.. cut to length (2 donor leafs) add to existing leafs, tighten down with new axle pin/nylock nut

If I were to put off the springs for later and I replaced the center bearing, would axle wrap destroy the new bearing? Or would the slip yolk absorb the movement in the axle

That's an excellent question and the answer would seem to be a definite "maybe" insofar as a rotating axle will always force the driveshaft up/down more. So you might actually want to think about springs/shocks first and do the bearing later. The bearing shouldn't be too much of a worry until then unless you begin to notice vibration/noise you can isolate to it.

General Spring and Wheeler's both have "OEM height" replacements as well as some heavier duty ones that'll add an inch or so. ALL of them, when new, will be "too high" at first until they settle. And you can spend more and get the multi leaf Deaver with 1.5" more height, which is still about as close to stock as anything else.

When it rains, it pours, right?

I had this same issue last month. I replaced the trans mount first with no luck. I then went ahead and replaced the carrier bearing which took care of the exact symptoms your videos show. I used oem parts, btw, my new trans mount has the same play as yours.

Ya see thats the thing, you guys keep referring to a bad Carrier , COULD it be bad ? Possibly but not likely unless it's in the condition I spoke of earlier, they can look like theres too much play but will be well within specs. ya know why ? Because like I said, Toyota doesn't really have any out-of-range specs for it...

Axle wrap will be nothing more than an ongoing nuance until the soft saggy sacked out leafs are addressed... Keep driveline lubed also...

My 2012 dblcb 4x4 has that much play in the bearing also;took it in to dlr to have it checked at 25k miles;was told "that's normal".Hate to replace on my dollar, but may bite the big one and do it.
