When was the last time you lubed the driveshaft? Especially the slip yoke at the rear. When I start to get the clunk when coming to a stop I lube the driveshaft and it cures the problem.

Interesting, I have a silent clunk when stopping quickly like the OP mentioned, but my 2WD truck doesn't have a slip yoke.

Also, I've read the slip yoke issue occurs primarily when the symptom is noticed AFTER stopping and the brake is related. Mine (and OP's?) occurs AS the truck stops, foot still on brake. Basic axle wrap?

Like I stated earlier, my truck did exactly as yours... I pulled the fuse to the ABS and it went away.
FWIW, I have a one piece driveshaft with a slip. It is serviced at each oil change.

Try pulling the fuse? Worked from me.

    Cheap fix too.
The CEL light came on so I put the fuse back in.
Going to do the 'delete ABS' mod soon. Too much other crap going on at the moment.

If I understand correctly -- ABS somehow causing it, or capable of causing something similar -- it wouldn't be a cheap fix for me, as I want to retain my ABS and would presumably have to then fix whatever's going on there (despite having no ABS warning light?)

My truck would 'surge' while stopped since new. Kind of felt like someone lightly tapped you from behind.
Also, my wife always asked what the faint whine was when you first started the truck and pulled away from a parking spot.

While cruising off-road, my ABS sucks. It will be going away shortly.

This exactly describes an issue with my truck. I have a suspension lift. Its happened for years and I can never get to the bottom of it. Have you or anyone else come up with a cause or solution?

    thanks

I eliminate the symptom by either coming to a stop slowly, or tossing it into neutral (mine's an automatic) just before the wheels stop. I'd imagine that if you prefer to do neither you'd need strong rear springs to help avoid axle wrap.

Thanks, weird thing is that this has been happening for years. Even after I bought and had installed the add a leaf from toytec ten years ago

    I had installed:
    Custom Add-A-Leafs
    *(2) D10045K73 Rear ToyTec add-a-leafs
    *(4) Anti friction pads
    *(2) Spring center pins w/nuts

I read somewhere the AAL is the cause of the axel wrap. I always noticed it much worse in the hotter months which makes sense. As metal is softer and more flexible when its warmer.

I'm trying to get to the bottom of this.

Today I lubed up all 9 zerk points on my truck. I've done this several times over the years. I noticed the zerk points near the real axel were the thirstiest. Based on what I have read my problem is almost certainly axel wrap. Is there a long term consequence to axel wrap?
The more I learn about these things the more I sort of regret doing the lift in the first place.

I lowered my truck with a flip kit and it solved the issue lol. For lifted I would imagine a new or stronger leaf pack should help.

Add a leafs are a bandaid solution. If you really want to fix your axle wrap, get a new set of leaf springs.
