The hook end of the tool has flat spots that engages the splines in the round thig-a-ma-jig in the pic. Rotate counter clockwise to lower the spare........ Installation is the reverse of removal.

I'm not seeing why it won't work...... that should fit right in. The mechanism that lowers and raises the spare is an enclosed unit and should turn relatively easy.

I sometimes have to crawl under the truck to get the hook to match in to the slot.

You have a spare tire lock on there. Unless you have the key for it you gonna have to grind/cut that off

Look in the glove box. I know fords use a wheel lock type socket for their spares.

What they said ^ There should be a lock-key that will fit onto the end of the rod in your picture. That lock-key will in turn fit into that 6-point star

That hooked part is for raising/lowering your bottle jack, there should be another tool in the kit that connects to the spare tire to drop it down. A lock-key like mentioned above.

In my '04, it came with a soft case under the rear seat that has a few rods in it that attach together to lower the spare. On one end of one of them there's the lock key, on the other is the hook that is used for the bottle jack.

Makes sense now. I didn't even think about a lock because nobody's stealing spares around my area.

Yeah that's a wheel lock. Person you bought the truck from didn't want their spare getting swiped, I guess. There should be the socket that fits it in the glove compartment. Not sure if it'll fit on the end of the rods though.

This is what you are looking for. You have an aftermarket locking device on your spare tire winch.
