Hello all! I am looking into upgraded from the stock stereo and I was hoping someone here could recommend the best receiver dash kit to use. I was looking at ********* Scotsche kit as well as the Metra kit. Could anyone give me their opinion or any other resource to get the best kit for the job? Thanks in advance.

I bought mine from crutchfield.com they give you the wire plugs and the metra kit for free I did not like the metra kit so I called scosche and ordered one from them. I installed a sony cd player with ipod connect and bluetooth the scosche kit looks factory very nice still using the stock front speakers and put two 6 x 9 s behind the seat in boxes it sounds great very impressed and all for about 250 bucks I own a regular cab and needed some more noise the factory stereo is lousy

I love my Crutchfield kit. The best thing is I can easily go Double DIN later on if I want w/o a new kit. Oh, and it was free.

I got the kit Scosche kit from very Best Buy and I think it blends pretty good with the dash.

I got the same kit, it is just a little darker than the rest of the silver on the dash, and it does not have the little bumps that the rest of the factory plastic has. But the for the most part it does look fine and you will not notice the color diffrence too much, if you just want a plain black kit order through Crutchfield and the kit will be included with the head unit for free!

Went with this Black kit. Comes in the silver match but I liked the contrast. Can get name and part number from shop if you are interested: Pic lighting a little off but kit does help darken up the cab...

The silver one looks better, matches the original one perfectly

What about these Best kits? I found this BKTA2053B, and it looks pretty good as well.

I went to an shop a few days ago (Autotoys, Randolph, MA) and saw they they put one in this other fellows Tachoma which had the same color, and bumpy pattern as the stock cover. I've been looking around a bit online to see which it might be. I'll have to give a call and report back.

Oh, I heard that Bestkits.com may not actually make this kit.. It might be a Scosche kit that they are reselling?

I'm brand new to Taco stuff, so I'm just trying to figure it out as I go.

After a lot of surfing this site looking at double din kits, I ordered the metra to avoid the fit and support problems some people seem to have had with the scosche kit. Something I didn't come across is that the silver metra with the nice matching bumps has a black surround that goes around the head unit, not matched silver. Now that I look around I notice it in a few pictures, but I didn't catch it before.

Anyways, I thought I point this out so anyone else looking for a kit would know in advance.

I'm off to order a scosche...unless someone has a better idea to get that surround color-matched? (will paint scratch off?)

I am trying to use the Scosche DDin on my O6 with a Pioneer AVIC -F 90BT and I would not recommend this kit. There is no way to make the front trim piece fit. It just falls off, right out of the box, due to the lower dimples being to small to catch. My kit was packaged under Best Kits but it is a Scosche

Going to return it and go get the Metra kit from Circuit City. They are actually price competitive with web based pricing on this item.

Toytec ultimate lift kit, light racing UCAs, ARB bumper and full skid plates underneath. Looking into redoing the suspension and maybe repainting the ol' Taco.
I just installed a Pioneer DD HU with the Scosche kit. While the colour doesn't match perfectly (I didn't think it woud) I didnt have any issues with build quality or the parts fitting together nicely. It is actually pretty well made. I also didn't notice the black piece of edge trim mentioned above, mine is silver like the rest of the kit. The side brackets are black, but those get covered by the silver trim, so no worries there.

Were you able to get the piece that goes in the front, to hide the space between the head unit, to stay attached? Mine seems defective because the little tabs on the bottom are not tall enough to keep the piece latched in even without the head unit installed.

Maybe my post was not as clear as I would have liked...I was referring to the Metra kit having a black surround, not the Scosche, I replaced the Metra with the Scosche. (btw, I'm having no luck, the Scosche kit came with 2 left brackets, still waiting on the replacement part from Scosche........)

Man, I just caught that typo from my earlier post: "I" should have been "I'd", oh well, lol.
