Depends on your alignment and wheel specs.

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...-those-that-wheel-and-love-alignments.594309/

Firstly you need to take about 5 threads out of your coilover adjustment, only want about 10-12 threads showing which is about 2" of lift, any more and you lose reasonable down travel.

Secondly, you need to determine where you are rubbing in order to correct. You might actually need wheels with less backspacing, you dont want to be using spacers with 285 and wider tires.

At 4WP and many places you are only paying for labor not skill.

I'm not sure that even counts as a CMC

i would just ask them to take everything off and go to a reputable shop. you are probably going to have to buy some new parts and new mechanics to get everything sorted.

sounds like 4wp got some extra Christmas money for adjusting your shocks...

It it just me, or does it seem like we would get the same amount of clearance by just bashing the cab mount in with a sledge hammer?

You left out critical data: your wheel specs. Do you have 285s on stock wheels or do you have aftermarket wheels? Pay particular attention to wheel offset in this article. Also read this TW thread.

Looks like they used black RTV as well :D

This is one reason I don't buy modified vehicles. I tried to talk my friend out of buying a highly modified OVERLAND 4Runner off eBay - especially with a CMC and he did anyway. Turns out the first time we went out on very mild roads, the 35's ripped off several body flares with custom vinyl wrap and uncovered horrible rubbing at the CMC and the front of the wheel well. So much for the "well sorted" "build".

there's a shortage of skilled mechanics because companies don't want to train people and then they pay them low wages all while marking up vehicles 10-20% above MSRP

You can't bash the cab mount back with a hammer, it's way to strong for that.

That said, you're correct that there was minimal clearance gained.

The 4WP by me won't even do anything that requires fabrication of any sort. I would have assumed that was all 4WP locations... That "CMC" (if you can even call it that) is basically useless to give you extra clearance. Looks like everyone else has addressed your ball joint, so I don't feel the need to repeat what everyone else is saying.

Just to compare with what a proper CMC should look like by a skilled welder and fabricator like @Shmellmopwho
