So I’ve decided to purchase a new set of wheels but just concerned on what offset to buy.

I’m new to this whole wheel situation and before ordering the wheels I want to be confident that I didn’t order the wrong set.

    I have a 2021 off road and looking to get a set of 17x8.5/ 6x 5.5 with 0 offset.

For tires I’m going to put on 265/70/17 or 275/70/17 wildpeaks at3

Is 0 offset a good choice? Or should I choose a -12 offset?
What are the real difference and things to worry about?

    Appreciate it

Your off road OEM wheels have a offset +25, about 1", so a 0 offset brings the tire out approx 1", a -12 offset would be about 1.5" further out than the Off Road OEM wheels. I have a -6 offset with 265/75r16's with no rubbing, but it's close when fully articulated.

Yep. Further out you being them the more likely to rub, which really confuses new guys.

Ya I would have honestly thought it would be the opposite but after thinking about that, it makes sense why it would rub. You guys recommend getting the 0 offset then?

Somewhere around there. -25 or -35 will probably rub.

Would I be worried about rub with a 16 inch wheel with -12 offset?

It's not wheel size. Its total tire diameter and offset.

You should be okay, I am running -6 offset with 265/75r16s with no issues. I can go out and take a few photos tomorrow to give you an idea of what an additional -6 offset would do if you would like.

that would be greatly appreciated. I want to order these wheels just worried I’ll be rubbing.
I’ll be able to make a decision after seeing those pictures!

I just put 265 75 r16 wildpeak at3w's on16x8 wheels with 0 offset and couldn't be happier. To me they seem the perfect stance. Was on a trail last weekend and surprising enough most of the dirt stayed on the fender lining.

If widths are different, comparing poke may not be accurate.

This is a top view of what higher offset does...
It puts more tire on the outside of the point on which your tires pivot.
The blue(stock) and green(higher offset) represent the different radii of the arcs the outside of the tire follows.
The larger radius follows a greater arc and thus more movement forward/backward in the wheel well.

    yire2.jpg

Here's a decent site to do comparisons. This example shows an increase of 33mm of positive scrub radius.
The additional positive scrub radius will cause the tires to toe-out more when driven.

Yep, it's the same with mine. At -6 offset, I'm just a tad farther out.

Do you notice a change in the trucks handling going to -6 offset?

No, not a noticeable change, however, with the wider track it should be proportionally more stable in situations where there is a lateral stressor.

Here are photos with the clearances with the configuration as above. It looks closer, but there is about 1/2” clearance at the back of the wheel well with the wheel turned. With the 17” wheels you are looking at it’s going to be touch and go and you may have to do a little trimming.96D93566-0C7D-40AA-BA1D-4FA3717AB4FF.jpg97E49537-F923-4D05-8297-9B5F5C342579.jpg54BE76CC-4742-47BA-91C9-6C18F7B943D9.jpg

The -12 will give you a more aggressive look, where the 0 will sit tucked in more. Depends what kind of look you are going for. Here is a -10 offset w/ a 265/70/17. Wheel size is 17x8.5.

^great looking truck! That’s the EXACT offset/wheel size/tire size I’m looking at for my SR(different wheels, however). Did you have to do any trimming at all? I have the stock suspension, but just would like a better stance. Thanks!
