Need some advice for boosted 1GR rebuild.

    I suppose you're right. If you're going to do it, you gotta do it right. If what I have was working, maybe I'll rebuild it and use it until I save up for something newer and more efficient. I was checking out that calculator on borgwarner, it seems pretty powerful but I wasn't sure how to get a lot of the data they were asking for to make it accurate.

    Save those pennies and get you a good one. It will be welllllllllll worth it!

    What should I do for break-in with regards to tune and boost? Should I just turn down the boost all the way and go easy? Hook up the stock ECU? Get a limp tune?

    Yeah. You could pull the wastegate spring, so that you're not making any boost. If the turbo kit is on. Then with the stock injectors and OEM ecu, do your engine break-in. Change your oil. Then get it tuned with the HP Tuner.

    Cool. I don't have any stock injectors though:(

    I just dropped off my valve covers to the builder, and I guess they're held up on gapping the rings. The guy I talked to asked what the max amount of boost I'd be running, and I'm not sure, tbh. What's the potential here? I told him 15 psi but then driving home, I was worried that I'd have tons of blow by if I'm not running near those numbers.

    That'll be ok. Just check the oil fairly regularly to get an idea of how quickly it goes down, and you'll have your baseline.

    What aftermarket ecu do you have for tye injectors that you have? What size are they as well?

    Then you can do the engine break-in with that. Just don't have any boost.

    I had an O2 sensor question. I have a bung in each exhaust manifold and one pre and post cat. I need to replace the two in the manifolds, one is missing and the other looks pretty rough. Should I just put stock sensors in both of those?

    Engine is in, primed it and went to start it with no luck. I'm checking all the usual suspects, but then my starter died. Feeling pretty unlucky tonight.

    Yeah, says no drivetrain codes. I lost my fuel pump relay when I took out the engine, and the replacement I put in has one less terminal. I don't hear the pump prime when I turn the key, so that's my top suspect. I'm going to pull out the starter and replace it this morning, and see if I can get a different relay.

    Got it running, started right up with the correct relay. I drove it down to the end of the street before I got a light, threw a P2196. Too rich. Should I continue with the break in or wait to have JustDSM tweak a tune for me?
