My parents have a long time family friend that is looking to sell her truck, and she reached out to my dad to give him the first chance being he has asked about it many times over the years.

I don’t know specifics, but it’s an 02 double cab with 85k miles. She is the original owner and the truck is extremely clean. She is asking 6500, I don’t know anything about 1st gen’s but that sounds like a great deal right?

The issue is she recently moved to Iowa, so we would have to figure out transport.

    So my questions are.

1- Is 6500 a good enough deal for an 02 double cab with 85k miles to think about getting it transported here?

2- For anyone that has done it, what is the ballpark for shipping a vehicle from Iowa to Arizona, and do you know any companies you would recommend?

That sounds like a pretty slammin deal for a clean truck in today’s market, IF the frame is in good condition. If it’s rusted out as they are prone to be, then it’s not worth anything unless you have the means to do frame repair. #1 thing to check for when shopping 1st gens

Frame is clean, that’s the first thing I asked for a picture of. It was a garage kept Az truck up until a few years ago.

Well damn. I have no experience transporting but I’d be considering that for sure. Good luck!

That's a great deal. About what I paid for similar miles a decade ago (wow it's been that long?!). Engine, 5 or 6 lug, and 4x4 or not are the biggest cost factors

You will certainly have maintenance to do. That few miles means it sits more than it drives, and there are age based wear items disguised as mileage based items

Thanks to everyone for the replies!

Normally something I would do. But I just had another baby 3 weeks ago so I don’t think that would fly with my wife lol.

Only other detail I have at the moment is its 2wd, which doesn’t matter to my dad.

Its driven regularly as a commuter, and is maintained at the dealer. But anything it needs would be done by me so not really an issue.

Well in this day and age, poor choice for a daily, but it'll last forever if you keep up with it

"Double cab" implies 4x4 as far as I know? That's what I was basing my assessment on.

If it's a 2wd (extended cab I assume) then the market value isn't quite as high. Less of an obviously good deal at ~8k all in, especially if it's a 2.4L auto

Both of my parents are retired, so it’s pretty much just going to see grocery store and Home Depot runs.

Oh got it, must be an extended cab. Wasn’t able to get much info when I talked to him earlier. I was trying to go off memory, this was our neighbors truck when I was a kid.

IMO for a pre runner that’s a fair deal, add in the cost of shipping and it’s meh, but could still be worth it to get a truck you trust and help a friend.

If 5 lug I’d pass, would be tough to find one with that mileage but you could find cheaper options locally.

If it is truly 'Extremely Clean', like nearly roll off the dealership floor clean, even the worst 5lug spec is worth like double that.
Poke around Bring a Trailer for similar mileage trucks, low mileage clean examples have very much entered a collector status and the prices reflect that

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/absurd-values-of-1st-gens-has-it-always-been-this-crazy.853025/

Prices will fall off pretty quickly as it gets further away from being 'extremely' clean though.

The double cab has 2wd version called the Prerunner. Says this on the passenger side of tail gate. There is also the 4x4 version. Great price even if 2wd.
    It's 6 lug if it's a double cab.
    Pics would help.

2wd and 4wd values are not even remotely comparable.

What auto transport co. did you use and what was your overall experience?
I've read numerous experiences & no auto transport co. gets an A+

I'm considering shipping my 2001 SR5 out to Sandpoint, Idaho.
The other option is to rent a car carrier & haul it behind the Penske truck
