Can someone explain to me why full leaf packs are recommended more often than AALs? I would understand on a 10 year old truck with 100k a full pack would be better but would an AAL contribute to early sag on new springs? I have a 2016 OR with 11k on it and was considering icon AAL but keep getting steered towards dakars as the "correct choice".

    Stock springs suck, IMO.

I've honestly never ridden in anything with aftermarket springs so I really don't know. Looking at the 6112 kit and need something. Want to keep the rake.

Spending 50% of the cost to get 25% of the utility doesn't make sense in the long run.

I installed a Toytec AAL on my 2015 when I installed my OME suspension (had 6k miles on the truck at time of install, it was only a few months old). in less than 6months, the leafs were flat and "sagging"

So 6 months later, I had to buy full new leaf pack (Dakars). Wish I would have just bought the leaf pack to begin with and save the $100 and time I spent installing just an AAL.

I have an ICON progressive AAL on my truck and it works great. I left the helper spring off because I wanted a level truck. Why change the leaf pack when you don't need too?

So if I went dakars with the 6112/5160 what happens to my rear shock? Don't the dakars give more lift than the shock is able to extend to resulting in a bad ride?

The 5160s replace your rear shocks

No I understand the 5160 is a replacement. I'm asking if dakars have a negative effect on the 5160 compared to a lower height AAL.

They are made for the ride height of the Dakars

So even though they would be fully extended the ride quality does not suffer?

I want to use whichever leaf pack is the best choice. Height isn't as important as longevity to me.

You have 5160s? Which pack did you get? How is it?

I just have Dakars and extended length bilsiteins in the rear. No Resi

I like the setup a lot.

Handles weight and rides just fine.

You can always remove a leave if you like.

Because it's inevitable that you will need the whole pack. They are trying to save you money in the long run. A lot have gone the route you are thinking and end up spending more to fix it. The leaf packs on these trucks suck, they are soft and squishy for that Cadillac ride all the car people that think they want a truck demand. They don't support any weight in the bed. Buy once, cry once. You'll thank us later. Welcome to TW
