a netbook is a fancy word used to trick your wife into letting you buy another gadget :D I told her I was buying a netbook and she didn't even question me. Had I told her it was another laptop, she might have been a bit more irate.

    Netbook characteristics:
    cheap
    low power
    no optical drive
    small
    long battery life
    smaller hard drives
    extremely limited graphics capabilities

Got the Acer One netbook last year a month after I bought a regular toshiba laptop. Love the size and weight of the Acer and sold my Toshiba a week later. Very portable to travel with. Slips in my backpack and I can do pretty much what I need to do on it. Not having an optical drive is no big deal as I just use a flash dirve for movies anyway.

You're still able to get one with an optical HD, but most come with the flash memory.

For me, it would never replace my Latitude. Just doesn't have enough power to run all the development apps I use as well as everything else.

I would still like to get one though, for the purpose of travelling, or going to other locations for meetings, I'd love to have something small again that I can throw in my portfolio.

I have the older one that has the funky shift key. I just went and order the updated keyboard that relocated the shift key from Asus for $20 :yay:

From what I hear, the replacement requires snipping a few tabs, but that's it.

Did you guys think about add the touch screen function on the Asus 1000HE? It will not cost more than 100 dollars?

I don't care for a touch screen on a laptop.

Ya my friend has the new acer netbook and its really nice the 10 inch is way better than the 8.9. I myself have a lenovo s10 and I love it. They have also came out with the s12 which is a 12 inch screen. Very handy, I can take it anywhere with me and I just wirelessly tether my iphone to it for inet.

not necessarily I can play css on it plus many other games, css has to be dumbed down to be able to play tho, as well I use it for itunes for my ipod, I also use it torrent movies and watch them, the only thing they cant do is play dvds, play hd video, and play newer games, as well you wont be able to do and 3d editing.

Did it, I love it. Anytime I get on someone else's laptop I end up tapping their screen.

I have an Acer AspireOne with the Ubuntu netbook distro loaded...love it. Keyboard is tiny but I wanted ultra-portability so I can't complain. Does everything I need it to and I dont even notice it in my backpack.

How does it run Excel? I work in finance, so everything I do is in spreadsheets.
