You either love or hate it, I would have probably owned a Subaru if it weren't for the sound of the engine.

I've had a few, and most Subaru owners with higher miles know what piston slap sounds like on a cold engine. Once warmed up they were fantastic and never had a failure.

My FJ and Taco before this one had tapping, rhythmic noises. With Toyota I've realized if a noise sounds like an old sewing machine, it's normal. When it makes a noise that increases or decreases with rpm and is constant it's likely a problem.

Freedom, American flags and ISIS blood Morimoto 35w 5500k HID/ LED highs from TRS. RCI expo rack Core Short throw shifter, hypertech speedo recalibrator. Rear seat molle panel. OVT. PnP 2LM. C4 Hybrid Bumper w/ amber BD squadron pods. 33 pizza cutters. T9 radio
The truck is direct and port injection, high-pressure and low pressure, mechanical and electrical fuel pumps... Also has DOHC and self cleaning injectors.

It's a very mechanical sounding engine and no amounts of additives etc will fix it.

My gs350 has the 3.5 and makes more power but use premium. It clicks as well. I had to get used to a $60k car sounding like a diesel while idling.

Mine is a 2013 es (2grfre) and after some googling looks like it has sequential injection not direct. I also saw posts from owners of the 2013 gs (2grfrse), which has direct injection, complaining about the engine noise. Thanks for answering my question.

fixed the problem with the clicking. Got SO sick of it, had to try something.
I went back and put some old school oil in it. 20w-50 with a bottle of thick STP additive in it as well.
Been running great but now with the cold weather, for some reason it doesnt want to turn over?...............

About 4k in and I still love it. No weird sounds, vibes, shakes, shimmies, howls, or anything like that. Seriously my one of my "biggest" complaints is that the head unit is a tad slow between screens and the car doesn't auto-lock when you put it in drive or auto unlock when you put it in park. I guess I never really noticed that most of my previous vehicles did that so it stuck out.

The powertrain works great, the features/tech in the car is top notch, and is an enjoyable experience every time I get behind the wheel. I never could say that about my Tacoma.

The real test happens in a few days when we head up to a cabin in Shenandoah. There are some fun trails to get where we need to. Plus we might get hit with a snow storm.

He's talking about his new Subaru, no longer has the Tacoma.

Unless Subaru also uses Entune?

They actually have Entune. I'm not sure it's called that but it's the same software. They made a deal with Toyota... probably to hold them over until Android and Apple got sorted out (which it did on the my18 vehicles).

From what I've researched the new Subarus didn't have the ability to change the lock setting until the my18 that just came out either.

    1) the dealership is by no means obligated to inform you about a service bulletin, only a recall which is entirely different.
    2) its no claim. It is absolutely, without a doubt the high pressure injectors that make the tapping noise. Also, they have a self CLEANING function that makes them even LOUDER.
    3) Its got plenty of power, the truck just demands that the driver know how to use it, like all Toyotas.

Get a full exhaust and take two of your cats out, I dont notice the tapping noise anymore and my engine noise DEFINITELY doesnt bug me

Ill just leave this here! OVTUNE, Intake, and URD spec U exhaust in case youre curious.
