I think that has more to do with distracted driving than anything else, and as someone who has alway driven a manual and always will, you can still drive while distracted by the same things. If anything it makes it more dangerous. I don't because I like to think I'm at least a partiallly responsible adult, but young and naive kids are another story. Cell phones are the single worst thing to happen to driving than anything else. The main problem is how impatient most people are nowadays needing to check their phones every minute to stay on top of their social circles.

The use of a clutch to “bounce” a car out of mud, snow or sand works really well too. It’s too bad nobody in the typical drivers ed classes gets to drive with MT’s. We had Mr. Kemp, our stern highschool bio and p.e. teacher for our driver’s ed, oh man could he yell, especially when ever we cut corners over the curb while grinding the gears on the school’s three on the tree Ford Galaxy!

Holding constant that people are texting and driving. None of that until you hit 6th and then you're cruising.

I completely agree with you, but it was a good way to interject a silly notion that the automatic transmission overtake was a valid contributor to the rising frequency of accidents. So true that people are so impatient that they will miss out on social notifications if they don't keep on it 24/7 while driving, sleeping, work, sex, etc...

An old post of mine from an old thread...

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/why-buy-trd-offroad-with-manual.448572/

Also I do agree that if everyone was driving a manual tranny I absolutely do believe that there would be less accidents. People would actually have to pay attention to their driving, and these "look briefly before I fly through a stopsign/stoplight" actions do not work well with the manual tranny especially for the mediocre drivers (which do most of the accidents).
