Interesting! It looks like an AGM may be in my future...

It's also good to note that while a more expensive battery will yield you say ~ 7 years, and a cheaper battery will yield you 5, it might be better to just go cheaper. For example, an odyssey battery may cost $270 and a Walmart battery $100. That Odyssey battery is running $39 per year of use and the Walmart battery just $20 (heck, if the Walmart battery only lasts 2.5 years, you are still coming out on top).

It really depends on your usage; are you using high loads (winch, speakers, etc.), are you storing the truck for large amounts of time, are you running the battery low frequently, etc. There isn't a universal battery that covers everyone's needs or budget. Not everyone needs a high-performance battery.

True, but there's more to it. I've owned 3 Enersys batteries and I got 8,9 and 11 years from them. They all failed slowly, giving me lots of warning ahead of time.

I got 9 years out of my last Deka battery, and found that brand to be the sweet spot for price/quality ratio.

I got my current walmart AGM on sale for $130. so I thought what the heck, I'll give it a shot.

My point is normal acid batteries can die with little to no warning. AGM's seem to die a slow death.

Those were just example numbers with no scientific meaning behind them, but I do agree Deka batteries have lasted me a good while. Weather conditions also matter, hot climates will degrade batteries faster than cold. The vehicle also matters, my F-150 would go through batteries every two years, regardless of brand. I had no idea Walmart carried AGM batteries, that's a good bit of information (and price)! I would assume that the more sealed nature of AGM results in longer lives since the average user will not refill the cells until it is too late; that and the vibration resistance of AGM batteries (another consideration).

I meant that I made those numbers up as an example. I did not do any research into rather or not the more expensive battery would last 7 years or the cheaper 5. I was not talking about anything you mentioned, sorry for the confusion.

This analzone battery you speak of. Does it come with lube? Asking for a friend.

If you want to run a fridge full-time on extended trips, a 2nd battery is helpful. 2nd battery should be located on the passenger side or in the bed. Putting two batteries at the OEM location overloads the inner fender structure and could cause cracking. Go with Optima Red Top 35 because it weighs only 30 lb (OEM is ~50 lb).
Advics AD0976, basically OEM pads but less expensive and comes with new shims (OEM pads don't come with shims at the dealer).

Sams Club 3 Year Replacement. If you get 5 years on battery you are doing good. No need to spend more on something that is designed to be replaced. Toyota OEMs …. mine dead in year 4.

When people talk about upgrading a battery, the first question I ask is "why"? For the overwhelming vast majority of people a standard high quality lead acid battery made by Johnson Controls will give you years of quality service. Unless you add a substantial amount of demand like a winch, onboard air, 90s style bass thumping stereo, etc. You will never see the benefits of paying more for an AGM. While it might last longer, at the price you are not getting much of a benefit and you are not running the deep cycles that those batteries are designed for. Instead use that money for something that you actually benefit from.

Kirkland from Costco - can't beat the warranty. Pay once and battery for life.

My OEM battery is only 9 months old as is my Tacoma. I have a dash cam (Garmin 65W) that is on all the time. If the truck sits for 3-4 days the battery will be dead. Dealer checked and the battery passes their test. Any suggestions on a battery that will last longer with the dash cam on?
