Yeah... A GoPro isn't exactly a dash cam, though you can use it as such.

I've got a G1W in mine. $50 off Amazon paired with a 32GB Micro SD card. It loop records till the card is full and just continually overwrite the old files. Saves in 5 minute increments and locks the file from deletion if the G sensor detects an impact or big bump. Turns on when I start the truck and off when I shut off the engine and exit the truck.

I ran the cables up by the headliner with some clips, down the right side of the windshield in the channel by the handlebar and under the dash to the 12v outlet. Easily reversible and removable. I'd love to fab a mount to use the GoPro mount though. It's just a suction cup for now but hasn't budged since I put it in well over a month ago. Stayed solid for 1yr in my Tundra too.

So how are you providing power to the GoPro? And does it support loop recording?

Mine is rechargeable, and I don't think it loops. You must have a better model.

I've got a Garmin dash cam 30 in mine. I mounted it right up behind the mirror and jumpered off the fuse for the 12v outlet. Works great and video quality is good both day and night.

Mine had a hand crank which broke after 3 months into my 12 month warranty and I was denied replacement due to some sorta weather fluctuation in East Germany. Fuckin' GoPro. Never recorded on the loop but we did manage to get some shuttle rides on it before it shit the bed.

Do you keep the GoPro mounted there when you park your truck in a public place? Seems like a good target for smash and grab.

Wonder if there's a decent 12V source from the mirror or overhead console?

If you have anything powered in your mirror, then yes. Seen plenty of folks tap into the back up camera power in years past.

I have a knock off GoPro SJ4000 that I've been using as a dash camera with 10 minute loop. I do risk getting broken into, but I park in a garage and on private property during the day.

I have a G1WC that I usually use but I haven't had time to wire up yet.

SJ4000 (gopro knock off on go pro mount)

G1W-C (mounted dash camera on mirror)

Is it hard wired in or do you pop in a fresh battery every time?

Tell me more. What head unit? Are you able to retain the steering wheel controls? I really despise Entune and looking to jump to an Android head unit eventually.
