Cheap price . But I like doing my own . Do you grease them or just use the grease that comes in the bearing ?

Has anyone replaced the carrier needle bearing with the ECGS bushing that Chase designed. If so did it get rid of your rumble? Did you buy the removal tool? Is it worth having the tool? I have a rumble at about 30mph that goes away in 4H.

I did . And it got rid of it . I have the tool as well if you decide to do it . You can borrow it . Get a new seal too because I didn't replace the seal and it leaked so I had to take it apart again . ;)

Sorry, all I heard was you beat yourself

Billy, I did when you mentioned and tried throwing it in 4wd when the truck started shaking. Didn't help, looks like my vibrations are coming from the rear drive line. Thinking it's the carrier bearing.

I did as well. It works well. Def do it before winter. I did mine outside in early February and it sucked. But that rumble sucked worse.

Any of you all have some knowledge of the mechanical LSD in the early model second gens? A dealer quoted me $3k to have mine fixed and another $500 for the carrier bearing. Carrier is fix now but my rear end is acting like a posi traction rear end. Meaning with the rear end off the ground and in neutral, I spin the driver side wheel forward the passenger side also spins forward. Is this correct? The dealer says no and it is acting like an open diff.. I thought the passenger wheel would spin backwards. Do I have major issues?

A open diff will spin one forward and one backwards . I don't have LSD but it sounds like your diff needs to be rebuilt . 3k + $500 is fucking nuts.

That's insane you could probably find a whole new axle for less. Maybe even a TRD. Your cheapest option if you must replace it is ECGS. You will need to install it either yourself, Through Tacoma world guys:D, or a shop (Ocean State Crawlers) is really good and fairly priced. However with an already assembled 3rd any shop could do it. If your looking for a stock rear end I would call ECGS and see if you could get a deal on an unmolested Core with your Gear Ratio. Hope that helps.

Edit:I don't know how mechanically inclined you are but installing a ready to go 3rd is relatively simple. The hardest part is making the gasket seal around the axle housing.

The reason the Dealer wants so much to fix it is they wont just repair the LSD. You would be buying an entire brand new Diff with a new LSD. Most dealers don't waste a lot of time with technical stuff like rebuilding diffs.

^that's not bad at all. Hell if you just buy a new LSD and take the Diff to them to swap it on you could even save money over the ECGS. Simply due to shipping the diff to you and the Core back to them.
