Hey all, I finally made it! Finally bought a 2016 Toyota Tacoma TRD Sport. The truck has about 126k miles but is in incredible condition. 1 previous owner, 1 minor accident a few years ago, they sold it recently so I'm assuming it was repaired good. It also has only like 2 scratches on the exterior bar a few rock chips up front, and the cleanest interior I've ever seen on a car that old.

Who ever had it took really good care of it, and I'd like to continue doing so and at least double up on the mileage.

I just picked it up so I've only checked the easy things, oil is good, filters are brand new, tires have about a year left. Both coolant and steering fluid are a little low but I think I'll just flush them completely as they are a bit off color, instead of just topping them off. Also, I'm considering swapping out the spark plugs just to make sure they're alright.

This is my first Tacoma so I'm trying to learn how to work on these things. If you guys have any advice on what else I need to do to make sure this truck keeps running (especially if you got a YouTube video to accompany it) please send it my way!

    Cheers!

You got the best of the best advice/map from “team oil drop”. His you tube videos are great……..same with another you tuber “Toyota maintenance”

besides the obvious…….i always check Cabin Filter (inside your glovebox, easy to pull and replace), be surprised how often folks DON’T replace it…..yes I would change the spark plugs to: 1)make sure you have the correct ones…….Denso , non iridium as listed in your manual, 2) to read the plug…….too rich, too lean, and checking for oil leakage ……..
3)Then, clean your MAF sensor (2 screws and MAF spray), and (4)then clean Throttle body (preferably both sides, with Throttle body spray and a rag, and a toothbrush).
after all that, pretty easy, let truck idle for about 10/15 to learn new air to fuel ratio………..
Welcome to better MPG and more power………

and , find a garage that does B+G fuel injector service……@$125……..well worth the money…….

and finally, OTT Tune @$400……..will totally change your truck for the BETTER, super important for 3rd gen…….improve transmission shifting and hesitation on acceleration……..probably best investment I made to my 3rd gen…… but to get best performance, do #1 thru #4 first.

Before changing the plugs….watch a few videos to see what you’re in for……..one side is definitely harder than other ……thought it was driver side……..
