Just installed a SC with 7th injector on my 03 Tacoma (purchased from URD)
My kit didn't come with a new thermostat like they used to from URD.

Should I install a lower temp Thermostat?
In CA near the beach where the weather is nice most of the time.

    Should I get a lower temp T-stat? If so, should it be a 170 or a 160?

    Thanks!

My URD 7th didn't come with one either earlier this past summer. I'm curious as well

Will the lower temp thermostat make your taco run rich since the ECU may think it is still trying to warm up?

No, as long as it can reach the specified temp, within the specified time. The 2nd Gen models have to reach ~168º F, in a number of minutes. I do not know the degree or time for the 1st Gen.

Do lower tstats actually make the engine run cooler? I know they'll open sooner, but what operating temps are people running these lower tstats seeing? I personally have no interest in running one, just curious.

In my current and past vehicles it does lower the temps.... For the GTO my heater felt cooler when dialed all the way up.

Idea is to help reduce detonation.

So is that 190*, 180*, lower?? My stock tstat operates around 200* monitored with Torque.

Usually the OEM is around 187F to 195F.

I have dropped it to a 165F in a few cases.

Gadget responded and said he has seen the best results when people drop to a 170 t-stat with the Supercharged trucks

Temp gauge needle is not a great way to monitor temps, my readings are from my scan gauge.
