How's it going guys. Im From the mountains of virginia and have been wheeling or "overlanding" for more than half my life. Owned old Toyotas, jeeps, Broncos, rangers, but Bought my 2018 trd OR new in 18. Been riding around stock for two years camping in the simpson iii with the wife. Now it's time to pull the trigger on lift, wheels and tires. My goal is to run 33s or close to with no rub and NO CAB MOUNT CHOP. I can't bring myself to chop the only new vehicle I've ever bought atleast until it's paid off. Anyways I've been looking at the OME BP51 kit with Dakar rear leaf pack. I've read and read and there's so much conflicting information about rubbing/not rubbing. Wheel backspacing, 16s or 17s and hardly anyone mentions in their build list right out if the have a cmc or not. Can I run the bp51 kit and clear 33 with our rubbing without the cab mount chop? I think I want 16s but would consider 17s. Also do I NEED anything additional to the kit for ex. Dif drop, extended lines, shims, or anything else for that matter. If I can't clear 33 with bp51 without cmc is there other options for a lift that I can clear 33 without cmc. Or do I just have to bite the bullet and run smaller tires until it's paid for and I do the cmc?

Greatly appreciated in advance for responses. Driving my self crazy researching and can't wait to pull the financial trigger on a good set up but want to get it right the first time

Just do lots of research before you buy anything. There's a lot more to lifting these trucks than just installing a set of coilovers. Welcome to TW and good luck with your truck.

    255 85 16 or 255 80 17 is a full 33

    No lift, rub or chop.

Using OE wheels or replacements with the same specs. Get a wonky wheel so you can 'stance' and it won't work.

    Hi there
So I am new to the forum but like you not knew to off-roading or mods
I have been down the Tacoma mod road since purchasing new in 2017
If you want to run 33s and a lower COG you will have to CMC . Dont overthink it just do it. What’s more important - not cutting or not achieving what you want to do with the vehicle. CMC and you will be able to run larger tires on a 1-3” lift guaranteed
As far as suspension- buy quality- the difference in performance is worth it. I have put three different combinations of components on my truck and nothing was better than stock EXCEPT the alumaseries COs - just spend the money ( buy once / cry once ). If you want help and pictures just PM means I will send

Welcome! I just bought my 2021 new and it came with a leveling kit, wheels and tires. Not bad, my first Toyota. I don't even feel like I need to do anything to it at all. Just installed my dash cam that came off my Forester.

So now I'm thinking king 2.5 front and rear, spc upper control arms, Dakar or icon rxt rear leafs, 285s on method 305 nv. I just can't decide if I want 16 or 17 inch wheels. I think I like the more meaty tire on the 16 but it seems most people are running 17s for some reason.

17s give you more tire choices in the A/T spectrum- 16s give you more sidewall if you do a lot of off-road driving that require more tire flex - I run 285/70-17 Nittos ridge grapplers- they’re an excellent on road tire with plenty of off road traction
305s you will struggle with rubbing when articulating and turning . They will rub. You are going to need to CMC with either tire if you want good OR performance and no rub
Kings are a great CO - with your rear leafs just consider loaded weight and the ride height you want . If you switch your leaf packs I would add dobinson greasable bushings and bushing pins - they are excellent if you go with 305s you migh consider a rear gear - I am on the edge of that decision now with 285s - a lot of good info on regearing cost vs benefits.

I will probably go with 285 70 17 for now and later down the road re gear and go with 305. Lift wheels and tires have me tapped out at the moment so won't be able to re gear just yet. Did you rub bad with 285 70 17 before cmc or just when hard flexing

I initially ran 265/75-16s with Toytec Eibach 2 in front strut lift - added a 1/2 “ spacer to that and 1” Toytec black in rear . I have a lot of weight with bumper / winch/ sliders and at the time an ARB full skid and was o my realizing 1.75” lift in front . I would rub under flex with wheels turned. I did CMC and solved everything. Now with a full 3inch of lift in front I have tons of room for the 285s but I still think 305s might rub if I ran them
I have fuel 17x8.5 with zero off set this runs the tire just past flush with the fender flare - so not really sticking out . The more they stick out past your fender the more they will rub on cab mount when wheels are turned

    Like, so many.
You're almost certain to rub doing 285s with no CMC, It's the height of the tire that causes the run, it's the width. That's why the 255s work with no cutting.

Ok maybe these help- sorry about dirt - weather is crap here right now in Oklahoma and wheeled ozarks over weekend
You can see full lock I have 1” of space between CM and tire. This is on 285/70/17s and with 2.5 “ of actual lift. Lifted 3” / sags 1/2 in. This is with 17x8.5rims with 4.5” BS AND 0 offset
I do not rub ever. hope this helps explain why you will need to CMC and why width is the main issue vs diameter
