    Hi All.

I've been looking over the site and it's great that there's so much info.

Just wanted to intro myself and truck.

I'm from Pgh, Pa and just purchased a 1996 Tacoma, Regular Cab, 2.7L, 5 Speed. The truck has only 56,xxx miles on it and I'm hoping to use this as my commuter and during bad weather which we get plenty of here.

The truck has an R-Title which is probably why it has such low miles since the frame was welded but not from an accident so I think it sat until someone was able to work on the frame. I hope I didn't get too ripped off, but if I can run this truck for a few years I think it will be worth it. It was welded just under the space between the bed and cab. Same on both sides. I probably wouldn't have bought it but for the low miles which were a selling point and it is in fairly decent condition.

A couple things that I know I need to do are:
    - New Spark Plugs
    - New Washer Fluid Pump
    - New Air Filter (i'm considering a CAI)
    - Replace Factory Stereo head unit, not urgent of course.

So I will get some pics of the truck as it is now and will be looking over the site for best recommendations on plugs and how to replace the stereo.

    Thanks!

Welcome to the site. Love the regular cabs. Just got my regular cab in July. Had a '99 extended cab prior to that. You'll love the truck. For spark plugs, I'd recommend buying them from the dealer or at least find out what they carry and buy that exact same one. I know the '99's used a dual electrode and when I went to Napa they gave me a single electrode plug. I didn't have a problem but I've heard some people did.

Thanks! I was hoping to get an ext cab but the regular cab looks better IMO. I did speak with a dealer and they have the OEM Denso plugs for $2.22 a piece. I'll probably stick with the OEM's unless I can find a convincing argument otherwise.

Also from Pennsylvania (Go Steelers) The used Tacoma's are hard to find, nobody wants to sell or trade in a good truck, people only want to get rid of a truck they don't like like used car dealers are full of used Rangers and Dakota's, thats why you see very few used Tacoma's for sale.
You're lucky to get such a nice truck with low mileage, if you wouldn't have bought it someone else would have bought it the very next day

You're right about the rarity of finding these tacos. I've been looking for a while and my need became more urgent when I parted ways with my 94 Jeep XJ (still miss it).

    Go Steelers! Booooo Ravens...

    Welcome to the forum!

Sounds like your truck is suffering from the Toyota frame rust (warrantee).
But then again, that's only good for 15 years.

Get the frame fixed or replaced....it's rusting from the inside out. Do some research on the 'Toyota Frame Rust Warrantee'
