I'm the proud owner of a 1st Gen(2000 SR5) and it has 200,100miles. I always have something new to modify or fix on the old bird. My current problem is the A/C won't hold any pressure when I try to add Freon. I'm unsure what steps to take, but the compressor was unplugged for some time because I forgot to plug it back in when i did a knock sensor replacement. Before that it blew cold air. Could this cause the problem and therefore the compressor went bad?

Sounds like you have a leak in the system, not a bad compressor. There is some stuff you can put through the lines that will react with oxygen when it comes out of the leak point and turn the area around some bright color so you can easily identify where your trouble spot is.

I turned the truck off so I could hear a leak. Behold the front bumper rubbed all the way through the steel in the bottom of the condenser. Over night part and it should be an easy fix! Keep the wheels turning!

    To answer your question.
When the pressure in the system drops too low, a switch automatically disengages the compressor clutch to save itself.

Ok. I plan to vacuum out the system today and check if it holds. If so, I'm going to add some oil/freon to fill the system. Any particular details I need to know?

Today I have an issue with the clutch not having much pressure. I recently replaced the master/slave and it ran alright but I find myself pulling the pedal up with my foot. Recently (this week) the back pressure on the pedal declined and its hard to get in first at a sit still. Could this be due to air in the line?

Check the bushing on the torsion spring. If it's worn out or broken / missing that could cause those symptoms. Could be a hydraulic problem too. Did you notice any fluid leaking from the cylinders?

The MC should be able to push the pedal up without a spring

MC pedal mount has a plastic piece on the inside and broke. The cylinder wasn't going in but flexing upward.

You would think so, but in this truck some people including me have new master cylinders that won't return the pedal to it's full engaged position without the help of the spring. I have a new master cylinder and no leaks and intermittent clutch pedal sticking problems - it's not really sticking as much as not returning. The bushing is missing from the torsion spring. I'll be replacing it with one of these when I get a chance:

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/clutch-pedal-squeak-new-bushing-design.76599/

There's either enough friction in the system with the bushing gone or the spring is not helping the pedal return to its fully engaged position without the bushing. My truck had the sticking problem for three months and magically I have full pressure again - I don't think a hydraulic issue would work this way plus I have the squeak / grinding feeling when moving the pedal as well indicating extra force from the bushing not being there.

Here's some more people that had fixed this problem with a new bushing or linear spring:
