hello everyone so I purchased my 2018 Tacoma couple months ago and have been following pages on IG etc. am very excited to start my build. Have a question maybe someone can help me out on so. When you start doing things to your Tacoma it voids all warranty from the dealership correct?

    Welcome!

You can make modifications without voiding the warranty, depending on the mod. And it will vary dealer to dealer whether they will try to deny your warranty claims for modifications.

Thank everyone for the welcome! That makes sense. So has anyone ever called there local dealer? To ask what mods would void and which would not? Or is everyone just kinda how I’m feeling. I just want to start doing stuff already! However the responsible side of me is saying NO! Wait until you are sure in case something happens in the future????

Big chance you'll get someone else who doesn't know what they're talking about or will just be you.

Welcome to TW...If something goes wrong or fails as a result of something you did to your truck then you’re pretty much screwed. Technically they have to prove that it failed as a result of what you did,but that in itself could be a long drawn out battle. That’s why I have a local off-road shop do most of my work because they guarantee and stand behind their work.

You need to offer some examples of what you are considering mods.

For example. If you change parts (like suspension) those will not have a Toyota warranty. IF flaws develop that the dealer can reasonably blame on those parts, they probably will. However, your warranty for everything else is fine.

So what are you worried about?

@Clearwater Bill that was very helpful thank you everyone! So as far as major mods such as lifts, suspension etc. that was more of what I was looking for an answer on??? So if I put a lift on it and get a local off-road company and they guarantee the work. It will still be under warranty???? Dealership told me I had to get lift through Toyota and could only be no more than 4” for them to not void warranty....

No...but if the shop guarantees it they should fix any future problems you might have.

It also depends on the kind of lift you install. I went with a 4 inch drop bracket lift which voided my frame warranty because you have to remove part of the cross member, but by having a professional shop do it,there should be a warranty through the shop. I’ve had mine for about 18 months now and no issues whatsoever.
