So I installed my cb the other day but have not tuned the anntenna yet. Today I drove over to the 25 and did a radio check with a couple truckers and at about 1.5 miles everything was clear both ways...

What is a reasonable exspectation for range?

I have a Uniden Pro 510 xl hooked up to 18' of cable with a Fire Stick mount and a 3' fire stick/fire fly antenna mounted at the furthest point of the bed... Above the tail light.

    Taken from Firestik website...
"High SWR caused by untuned antennas will not toast the transmitter during testing. The problem is a time-based one involving heat build up. During SWR testing the transmitter is activated in short bursts. Cooling off time exists between calibration and the collection of the readings. Until all components are tested and the SWR adjusted, you should not keep the microphone "keyed up" for longer than 10 seconds at a time while calibrating and testing … especially if at any point the SWR readings are at or above 3.0:1."

I'm about ready to say "Fook it" and mount the CB antenna right behind the TRD sticker on the driver side. Fenders stick out more than the antenna mount would so I shouldn't have to worry too much about ripping it off.

after towing my trailer with the zuk today i think ive finally come to the conclusion i need a bigger truck... im going to go look at a 07 and 08 cummings tomorrow and a 08 chevy 1500ltz. i really like the power and mpg of the desiel but i don't like the maintenance cost. This is going to be a hard decision cause i love my tacoma... what do you guys think? would i be fine with a 1500 or should i just go all out on a diesel?

    diesels have higher maintenance cost?

If you are towing, torque is what you want and diesels will give you that a plenty.

if you're going to look at a dodge, might as well look at a 2500 gasser ram... or if you find a clean chevy you'd be just fine with a 1500 or 2500HD unless you need a diesel every day all day long with the diesel prices its really not worth it. the power out put of a chevy 1500 and/or 2500HD (non Duramax) would be more than enough to pull your rigs! same goes for a 1500 or 2500 ram... im a fan boy of both dodge and chevy you cant do wrong with either truck.

also had to re-create the new retard/ricer trend of holding the steering wheel outside the car while driving.

His arms flew out of the frame because he forgot to put on the wrist restraints but somehow was fine. I thought for sure he had broken his arm.

He'll be sore tomorrow that's for sure.
