In the meantime, I'm gonna keep sending it and keeping a 5qt jug of oil behind the seat until I get a reman block, or that guy takes 500 bucks for his motor xD

Or see if there's some middle ground. For a 79K motor though honestly it's a fair enough price IMO. I have 114K on mine.

So this is the damage. Surprisingly it still runs. The rad is bent, but not leaking. The fan is broke off the pulley it's attached to. There didn't seem to be any damages to the front of the block. Couldn't hear anything wrong coming from behind the timing chain cover.

It still worries me that something got fucked in that whole timing chain area. There's no way the fan broke off and didn't fuck up anything else.

Hence the reason I don't want to pay anymore than 500 or 600 bucks for the motor. At that cost, I can throw some money at it and not get close to the cost of a reman block, or another running junkyard motor.

It is possible..I'd want to hear it run and all that but my Camaro I had as a teenager had a similar impact..metal fan too. Nothing internally affected, it still started up

Got a lot of stuff lol
Unfortunately no lol. I went a custom route for the engine mounts because I plated my frame as well. People do swap them into 4runner pretty often and someone out there probably has an adapter for your trans.

little bit of an update. i tried seafoam. im leery of products that claim to do shit on the label. snake oil and stuff like that. but i dont have anything to lose at this point. i threw a whole bottle in the gas tank, and about half down the oil fill. drove 150 miles back down to CT. got around to doing a compression test today.

    previous numbers were
    135,130,125,134

after seafoam in the crankcase and gas tank
    160,120,150,150

thats an increase on everything but number 2. which went down.

next i soaked the pistons in seafoam for about an hour. cleaned them out and ran another test.
    140,130,185,170

number 1 dropped. not sure why, im chalking it up to a fluke. number 2 went up 10 psi. any improvement is a good one. numbers 3 and 4 went up by 35 and 20 psi respectively. which is amazing.

next time i have a sunday off, im going to do another soaking, but leave it for a bit longer this time. i still have the seafoam you spray down the throttle body as well. i figured id save that for another day, dont want to release too much carbon at once. but that will be my next step. i do think another soaking for longer will do some good.

i drove the truck around for 10 miles afterwards to burn off the seafoam left. i cant say with any certainty that it ran better, because its always run well, it just burned oil. i thought the lifter tick was a bit louder, but i think i was just honed in on it trying to hear anything from the engine.

afterwards i changed the oil, because i put the seafoam in the crankcase and i know i had some leak down. ive got a 50 mile highway run tomorrow and ill see how much oil it burns. when i changed it, i filled up the 5 quart jug to about 4.5 quarts. probably spilled half a quart and the little bit left in the oil filter. the truck holds roughly 5.7 quarts, so it might have been an improvement. i cleaned off the bed panel next to my exhaust, so ill see how much carbon builds up over the next few weeks.

Put 140 miles on it yesterday. There doesn't seem to be any oil burnt. It's still pretty clean. No noticable buildup on the bed panel.

My boroscope showed up today,so I'll be able to look down into my cylinders next time I open it up.

I'm on COVID leave for the next two weeks due to a positive test, so I'll have plenty of time to dick around with the truck.

Around 220 miles or so after treatment. I haven't been able to drive much due to RoM, but I don't seem to have burnt much, if any oil so far. And it's stayed fairly clean

Subbed. 08 2.7 with 89K. Reading about oil consumption issues on here has me paranoid.

I definitely would recommend putting some sort of cleaner through the gas tank and even the crankcase every so often. I personally try to put marvel mystery oil through every tank.

For the most part I think a lot of the additive products are snake oil, but this seafoam shit definitely has worked magic.

This is the buildup after 260 miles. Still there, but significantly less than before. So it's still burning, but not nearly as much

I’ll most likely run some sea foam through mine every once in a while as preventative maintenance. Definitely keep this updated. I’m interested to see how it pans out

Cyl 1,2,3,4 if it loaded them correctly. Gonna drop some more seafoam in and let it sit overnight. At least in cyl 1 and 2

I am curious about your maintenance history with the truck. I read through all the posts and didn't see anything. What oil have you used, at what service intervals?
The reason I ask is because I recently learned about how different motor oils can have a different effect on carbon buildup in hot spots of the engine, possibly leading to sticking rings. Also your success with the Seafoam treatment has be wondering about stuck rings. And some other TW threads on this issue have speculated that these engines need synthetic oil in order to live a long time... even though they were originally spec'd for conventional (such as my 2006 for example).

I bought the truck at 216k. Did oil changes every 5k with Castrol high mileage. The previous owner did it every 5k at valvoline. They had years of oil changes on file.

The last 20-30k miles, I've just been adding oil when it needs it and changing the filter every 5k.

I stopped using higher quality oil because I was going through a quart every gas tank fill-up. At 2-3 fill ups a week, it starts to add up. I switched to the Walmart high mileage synthetic and have been running that for the last 10k or so.

I'm driving 400 miles round-trip this weekend and I plan on putting some more seafoam in the gas tank and the crankcase and changing my oil again next week. If I have a significant reduction in oil consumption (which I have already) I'm going to switch back to a higher quality oil.

I also have a catch can I might try to install before I leave. But not sure if I'll have time

Hey man I burn oil on my 3rz about 2 quarts every 1500 miles. I got compression of 185s all 4 cylinder though. Must be the rings
