Mine was done a couple weeks ago. Dont think there was an issue with the TSS recall but there were other issues with the dealer not doing a true multipoint inspection.

I "Think" it is working but not sure until a bit more rain driving.

I am stock on height and grille....will see what happens.

My truck has the stock grille. Called one dealership and they wanted a 1 hour appointment to assess the vehicle before ordering parts and another appointment to perform the recall. I told her I work 60 hours a week, I'm not making two appointments. Called another and they ordered the parts. I'll be doing business with this one in the future.

Took mine in on Saturday. Since I had I've already had a couple issues with my dealership before, so when I switched back to the oem grille I made a little mark on the radar with a silver sharpie. Dealer told me whe radar was replaced... guess what part of my truck STILL has that little silver mark on it? Lol. I'll be calling them tomorrow to complain ab pu ur being lied to for the third time now. And I'll be going to another dealership from now on. Basically all they did was put a little sticky foam piece over top of the radar. I'd be surprised if this is actually how Toyota "fixes" this recall. I feel after driving in a few good rains, this foam shield will fall off. Here's a pic of their"fix".

If your sensor tests fine that's the fix.

So has anyone gotten an actual answer on what the foam thing is for? I've had 2 different service people tell me 2 different answers. One said it's to keep out water, but the other said it's to help "obsorb" radar reflection. Has anyone else heard the second reason?

I had my service adviser try to tell me the foam cushion was to "help absorb the radar"... which is BS. If that was the case, they would have all came WITH the foam from the factory already. Such BS:mad:. The "foam cushion" or "foam pad" or "foam sheet" or whatever you want to call it, is to help prevent water intrusion. If you read the "special service campaign" it says right in there that they will perform the "application of sealer to the millimeter wave radar sensor" - so why lie to us and make up the BS about the foam pad being there to "help absorb radar?" Ughhhh:bananadead:

I know its for water intrusion. When the dealer told me it was to help "absorb radar" I LOL'd to myself.

I just took my truck in for the 15K maintenance a week ago. About 3 weeks ago, on two different occasions, in rain storms, the PCS disabled itself (dash icon illuminated). It didnt auto brake for me, but disabled PCS. After it stopped raining, the dash icon went away. Anyways, after the visit to the dealer, they did not change my radar unit. Which begs the question, what exactly has to happen to "store error codes" to cause them to replace the radar? The self-disabling of the PCS didnt cause the right codes to be stored, I suppose. Maybe you have to have the situation where the brakes are falsely applied? But how does the radar know if the brakes being applied is a false positive or not? Get what I'm saying? I came away from the dealer with a fancy foam sheet, and and update to the PCS software. Which, that's a whole other confusing matter.... If my current radar disabled itself in a rain storm, I dont understand how a foam sheet and a reprogram "fixes" the issue. I get that they think the foam sheet might help water intrusion, but what code are they changing with the reprogram? If my radar is prone to water leakage, how does a code change fix that?

No lift. No grille change. No suspension change. Nada. Zilch. I did put new tires on her. Same size as stock, but because they arent stock firestones, they'll blame those.:D:bananadance:

This kind of goes to my initial question; obviously I'm not the only one who was told it was to absorb radar reflections. The service department had to get that idea in their head from somewhere, right?I imagine some dealer tech was questioning cooperate about all this and got something like "well, its supposed to help with water but maybe itll help absorb radar, we don't really know how to fix the problem" th
Just out of curiosity what would the benifiet be for contacting corporate in his situation? They performed the entirety of the service bulletin.

The service bulletin has been out there for a bunch.........

From what I can gather.....simply preventing water intrusion.

OUT! Folks take a peek at the threads on the TSS issues for folks under the voluntary recall from Toyota.

Chat with your dealer about it.

I took mine in today and I will check it out. When I drove home I thought they did something with the tranny because it seemed to hold first gear much longer then usual, I was pleased driving home. I did not see any mention they did for updates etc. now I just rolled 1500 miles on mine and I thought I was in ECT but was not the case. I did see my boot was down a little so maybe he was in there messing around.
If it keeps driving for the better I am going to call and ask about this
