Hey all! I've owned a 2012 SR regular cab with the 2.7L, 4x4, and manual transmission for about a year now. I got it with 35K on the odometer, CPO from Toyota, paid 15.5K OTD. Today i've got 49K and it's been utterly trouble free. It's my first "from the dealership" vehicle after a life of buying used pieces of shit and driving them into the ground. This is so much better and as much as I hate to admit it, my dad was right that buying a decent truck would be cheaper in the long run!

I daily driver it for now, and use it to drive on the beach for surfing and surfcasting, plus hauling around my dirtbikes in the back. Eventually this will be pulled from daily driving and used just for fun stuff.

Now that i've had it for a year i'm starting to crack into mods to make it more capable offroad. I'm also interested in setting up the rear for boondocking/truck camping.

So far the only mods i've done is the "bench seat recline" installed 265/70/R16 Duratrac's, the pop & lock tailgate lock, and a bench seat cover, mostly for the utility of having some flat storage pouches behind the seats.

I've got the AFE pro dry S filter on the way, as well as a Uni-filter for the secondary air injection foam filter mod. I can't decide if pulling the charcoal filter is worth it or not, so for now it stays.

Eventually I intend to upgrade tthe suspension, install steel bumpers and some running board sliders to have some better recovery points.

I'd like to have onboard air for airing back up after surfcasting, and potentially use with an ARB rear locker, although I havent gotten stuck in anything the LSD couldn't get me out of yet, and I haven't even done the yellow wire mod yet!

So far, this forum has been one hell of a resource for me and has answered SO many questions. I've been seeking answers on the facebook "toyota tacoma enthusiasts" group but coming up way short, so I figured it was time to start asking my questions here and contributing where I can. Thanks a bunch!

Here she is before the duratrac's went on, doing some storm cleanup last spring.

Welcome! That beach looks amazing! I'm a new member here too, I have had a 14 RC for a couple weeks now and love it. Regular cabs are the best!

I just searched what the yellow wire mod is. I'd never heard of it, but now it is on the list of things to do! Thanks!

Welcome to the forum. Love the story. Jealous of the beach photo.
Continue on the happy trail with that sharp taco.

Welcome, and nice choice of truck! It should last you a really long time if you take care of it. Make sure to check for frame rust periodically since you've been using it at the beach.

Engineering Explained on YouTube has a video with dyno results and everything and the conclusion is that it will not make any noticeable difference. It gave him about a 3% increase in performance, and with a 2.7l taco, it wouldn't be worth it. Have fun with your truck!

I've had my 2012 RC for almost a year. Hands down the best vehicle I've owned.

Thanks for the tip, having watched the video I think i'll leave it in place.

This spring I plan on knocking back any visible rust and coating with some kind of protective paint. I'm also going to get at the inside of the front boxed sections and using one of the more aggressive solutions in the POR-15 frame restoration thread.

I'm lucky that my frame is incredibly clean, it looks really good right now.
