Would you buy something that would allow you to use your firearm as an air gun?

    Hi!
Me and some of my friends who own a machine shop have developped a system which allows us to use our regular firearms as air guns. The system does not require to modify the firearm in any way. The plastic/metal pellet is propelled at speeds around 600-650fps and is really accurate. We currently use this to do some plinking with our big guns at places where we cannot shoot regular ammunition. It's really cool to shoot beer cans with a 338 Lapua in the backyard!

Now some people are telling us we should sell this commercially. So here is the question: would you buy something like that? Any comment is welcome!

Price range of a kit would be around 100$-200$, and we need to add a way to compress air up to 3000psi. It can be a hand pump, a compressor or a diving tank. Then, ammo would be around 30 cents.

Seems like a good way to get low cost trigger time, but not sure how many would shoot this way at a range, and I don't think many in a typical neighborhood would be apt to shooting their AR in the backyard despite the lack of muzzle blast.

You might mention a ballpark price to somewhat accurate judge legitimate interest. Some guys would be more inclined to do so for $50 than at $150.

For compressed air tanks, ones that are designated for paintball are probably the best bet. A steel 3000psi tank can be had for around $50 and is way smaller than a scuba tank.

I think in my case, I'd be more likely to spend a couple hundred bucks on a good air gun if that was what I wanted. I really don't think I would be interested and use it if it was free, but I get to shoot on a weekly basis. Maybe for people who rarely get to shoot?

Good luck though. Hopefully it can be a profitable venture for you.
