I can't believe all the ass-hat answers, dogs don't BELONG inside. Some folks choose to let them, (I've got two weinner dogs that sleep right in the middle of my bed every night). Dogs are way tougher than people. Watch any show on dog sledding, they sleep outdoors, way colder than NC. I have a bud with a boxer, WILL not sleep in his house, seen him more than a few times with frost on his back, curled up asleep. Another bud with a couple of labs that I was bitching about them not having heaters in there boxes (in a barn) showed me I was full of it. The next morning, after we came in from deer hunting, he let them run loose on the farm, straight to the pond they went, it was still 20 degrees out, they had icicles forming on there fur, they didn't care.

But to the OPs question, (and a pup prolly needs some help his first winter) simply cover the door of his house with some old carpet, slit, (like a freezer door) and hang a light bulb so the pup can't reach it, and leave it on at night.

Just think, they survived with out us at some point in time, what's next, bringing all the horses and cows in doors for winter?

dude its completely crazy he has his own room in the house he is absolutely massive btw.

at his front shoulder he stands 42 inches its like having a mini horse in the house. so he has to have good beds and blankets like everywhere so his little elbows don't get beat up and i'm proud to say he looks perfect at 5 years :)

lol he also sleeps 20 hours out of the day so beds are a must he loves comfort thats for sure. i'll post up a pic of his bedroom but, take a look at whats in my house lol.

Generally I don't sleep with cows, I see you are from Alabama, that being said, my dogs sleep in the house with me.

Get him another dog to play and sleep with.

I grew up with dogs. Most of the time we had two. They were never in the house, always outside in a normal dog house without insulation or a door. My brother and I had bad allergies. If it was pouring down rain we might let them in the garage or in the mud room. This is in California so it only gets down to 30 at night in the winter.

If we went out to check on the dogs on a cold night or morning they were always curled up together and seemed to be doing just fine. The cat would join them sometimes.

My parents started to soften up a little with one very old dog that lived to be almost 16. She spent her last four years or so sleeping in the garage. The cat would join her. Looked cozy to me.

I think the best compromise is an insulated dog house and two bodies to warm it up. They really do much better with a playmate. You won't be their only outlet for all that energy.:D

my parents raised us up with a healthy respect for animals we never even considered keeping them out side unless that truly is where they wanted to be.

to each their own and all thats just my opinion the puppy will be just fine either way but, i think it would be a a lot more comfy inside and thats always my goal with my babies :)

Best answer yet. If we had not got him from the breader he would be in a cemet shelter with cage around it, 10 by 10 and multiple dogs in with him never to run free. I feel like he is pretty lucky now:D

Yeah, like there are no livestock fuckers in FL. And if can/could read before running your pie-hole, you'd have read that my dogs sleep in the bed with me and my wife every night.

Yea I did not see all of this happening. I was just excited about the puppy and the few hours we spent working on his lot today to make it even nicer for him. And I just wanted to know a few other things to help keep him warm. Not start a war:D

At least you got a male. My buddy has female golden retriever and lives in a rural neighborhood where all the dogs run free. He was unaware that dogs can give birth to a litter of puppies with multiple (fathers?). He knows that now. He can match the puppies up to each male dog on the street. Naughty little bitch she is! :D

Look, I'm an idiot. I'm sorry. I let my emotions get the better of me. I have a friend who tolme they were about to do some very illegal things and I couldn't talk them out of it. I failed them as a friend and took it out on him in an inappropriate fashion. I am sorry.bid I offended anyone, I apologize. I'm out. Congrats on the dog.
