Does anyone know if the TSB increases the payload capability beyond the 1350 lbs?

    That's wierd, a 2009 Tacoma has a higher payload than a 2008 Tundra??

I think the TSB was already completed on all new trucks. If you have 3-leafs and a helper spring, the correction has already been made.. If you need more support you can install an AAL.

OK ... I should have read the whole thread... Derr.... I had the TSB completed a week ago and added a strut extension on the front end to level out the truck. This weekend I was anticipating good results from the new rear leaf springs. I loaded up (2) 235 lb dirt bikes in the back with a medium cooler and an aluminum loading ramp into the truck bed. Added a small tool bag and (2) moto-x gear bags into the back seat. Then before my son and I got into the truck I took a look at the leaf springs.. They were inverted approximately 1½-2". Better than before the TSB but I was, to say the least, a bit disappointed.

There is NO-WAY that even with the new leaf pack that my Tacoma could possibly support a payload (In the bed) even close to 1,350 pounds. I would be sitting on the frame stops the entire ride.

As it is now, with the (2) dirt bikes in the back with the weight evenly distributed over the rear wheels (approximately 475 lbs) I felt the suspension bottom out at least 2 times on the freeway. Not as hard or nearly as bad as before, but it still hit.

I would assume the payload capacity would have to include all passengers and everything else loaded in the cab and in the bed.

grille painted to match body color (black sand pearl), bed mat, intermittent wipers installed, 14" shorty antenna.

How would I know if TSB was completed on my 2009? I'm not sure what a helper spring is and/or if I have one? Not sure also what an AAL is? Is it possible that based on the ID numbers on my rear springs that they are OK in my vehicle or is it that 3-leaf springs are just not adequate period? The numbers on my rear springs are: left rear = 48220-04160 and right rear= 48210-04370. F.W.I.W., I did call Toyota Customer Service today and got case #. I checked with my local dealer where I purchased truck and was told that they could not do the TSB due to year and that it applied only to 4WD vehicles. They said they would check with area rep--can't imagine that will change anything.

If the TSB was already corrected by the factory, you would have a stack of leaf springs (3) curved and (1) flat (Helper)

The TSB applies to both 2WD and 4WD vehicles but has not been updated to include 2009 trucks as of yet.. If your truck has the old 2-leaf, 1-helper spring then I would assume that eventually they will update the TSB to include your year model.

If i were to load a Honda Recon in my tacoma might that show me the weakness of the rear springs or would i need to go heavier to feel the issues some are experiencing?

I'd load it up and take a drive... See what happens when you drive up a driveway (slow... but not too slow) and on normal roads with little dips and stuff. Also, once loaded, take a look at the springs and how much clearance is left between the freame stop and the top of the springs

Bout to go take a drive with it. The clerance is a llittle less than 2 inches. I have a revtech 3" lift with blocks in the back. Would this chnage my clearance?

It certainly won't change the spring rate.. They'll still be inverted when loaded..

Yet again another example of a dealerships inept ability to give the truth.

The real reason they can't do it for you is the TSB does not cover reg cab.Sorry.:((and the '09s aren't on the TSB yet) They are wrong about only for 4wd too. The TSB states that it is for Prerunner, which are always 2x4's.

The rear leaf spring TSB on my '09 DC TRD Off-Road was completed by the dealership today, in less than five hours. The ride is firmer and it appears to have corrected the infamous Tacoma "left lean."

I read through most of the TSB threads for background and advice then called the Toyota 1-880- number listed in other threads before I went to the dealership. I explained the "harsh ride" I experienced everytime I loaded more than 600 lbs. in the truck bed. The representative opened a case, gave me the case number, and sent an email to the dealership. No hassles, very professional.

The next morning I received a call from the dealer's service department stating they had received the case and had ordered the parts. The parts arrived yesterday, I brought my Taco in, they gave me a free rental (white Corolla-I was able to partially keep my man-card), called me five hours later to tell me the work was complete. Everything went seemless!

You got lucky with the corolla. I got stuck with a solara convertible. I thought about putting the top down since I've never been in a convertible, but I decided against it.

Btw, on your service printout given to you, did it list that an alignment was performed? the service adviser swore it was performed within spec, but it was not listed on the sheet...

I followed the same procedure as CWOF. I'm waiting to hear back from my dealer right now. Will let you know what happens!

The Corolla was, well, appreciated and returned quickly. I'll have to check the service ticket, but I was told the alignment was checked.

Straight from the TSB on the first post. It is for both 2 and 4 wheel drive. TRD or not doesn't matter.

Actually, 4wd and Prerunner, since Prerunners have the 4wd suspension.
