Those are probably the exact tires I'll get when mine wear out.

Assuming your speedometer is accurate right now.

Last year I got a ticket for 21 over (automatic reckless driving charge for anything over 20 and I just entered a 55mph zone from a 65mph zone) so I and took it to a dyno / speed calibration place to get it checked. Dyno operator says he usually sees Tacoma at +/- 5% in error from the factory to accommodate different tire and wheel packages from across the model range. I was able to show the judge the error in my speedo to put the charge under 20 mph so the offense turned into a simple speeding ticket rather than the reckless charge.

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/cold-feet-about-larger-tires.442229/page-5#post-12874487

now that I'm aware of the error I adjust my speed accordingly.

You might find changing your tire diameter might make your speedo more accurate depending on your base calibration.

I'd love to see photo similar to the one's I've posted showing the gap at the rear of the front wheels at half turn. Considering how there's less than half an inch with 265/75 tires I'm baffled as to hot that could fit with another 1.6" diameter on 255/85s. I'm not doubting you I'm just struggling to understand it! Got a photo? What's your gap in that position?

I have stock sport 265/65r17. Any speedometer or tach changes if going to 265/70r16?

according to it's less than 1/2" difference, so not enough to worry about.

That's cool forty2, thanks for the link! Can you or STexaslovestaco or anyone else show us photos showing the gap at the rear of the front wheels at half turn on your 33" tires? Like this:

Good choice. Can you post a pic of the entire truck?

235/85R16 is considered a 32", but here you go nonetheless:

Ahh, 235/85 is 32" - I get it! Thanks. Anyone care to post photos of 255/85s at half turn - rear side of front tires?

I'm really considering going to a set of 235/85/16's. I've had a bit of trouble finding pics, so thank you! Your truck looks pretty good with them on there.

I've read Scott's argument for them. In my opinion, it is a sound argument. I live in the North East and drive through a fair amount of snow every winter. Narrow tires are really the way to go for that.

Sell me on making the switch. How is highway driving with the high sidewalls? I'm not a speed demon, prefer to keep it at the speed limit to conserve fuel. Speaking of which, how do they affect fuel economy? In theory, the narrower tire should offer a bit less rolling resistance and be slightly more aerodynamic. What is your actual experience? Is there a perceptible difference in power with the taller tire?

    Thanks again!

So I track my fuel economy pretty meticulously and have just shy of 50k on the truck, but I only have ~2500 miles on the BFGs so far. Here's what I can tell you, on the highway there seems to be a fuel economy benefit of around 1 mpg before correcting for gearing and that means it's really closer to 1.5 mpg. Around town and in stop and go traffic it's the opposite, about a 1 mpg loss in economy that corrected for gearing comes in just over .5 mpg. The loss is probably a combination of effectively raising the final drive ratio and the extra weight of the tires, about 7 lbs per corner, over the stock Goodyears. That said, I don't think my 2500 mile sample is really enough to say conclusively that what I've observed so far will hold, but I feel pretty good about it at this point.

Forgot to comment on highway driving. It's fine, I'm running 40 psi on pavement on all corners and that chalk tests out okay, maybe slightly over inflated if anything. Truck is still pretty stable except that it tends to fall into deep highway ruts more noticeably, not near as bad as my old '84 Vanagon though...

Since you are asking in a new thread since there hasn't been threads on this already, I am going to assume you will go with the largest black rim size wrapped in KO2's (the best tire in the world). Am I right? What do I win? Seriously, are no adults capable of making their own decisions or ding some research first? Off on and for a couple months I was checking out threads on tire types and sizes making sure I picked what was right for me, not a quick general thread question asking everyone what they thought I should get...

Not from my vehicle, but here is the thread I've been following for this tire size

    Cool story.

But, here you are, in a thread about opinions on tire sizes. Instead of sharing a meaningful opinion or helping OP, or anybody, figure out what might work best in his/her situation you're kicking up a fuss. /slow clap

Back on topic, thanks for the info forty2. Much of my driving is on the highway, until I get near my destination. Job sites are frequently out in remote areas, with lease roads extending miles off into the bush. Late Autumn through early Spring can get kind of sketchy with the snow, both on the lease roads and in certain areas on the highway. I've always preferred tall and skinny tires, and I'm reasonably certain that they would suit my needs better than the stock 265/70 16's.

Yes, but that thread doesn't have photos of the 255/85R16 at the half turn where they would first rub! No one seems to have those photos! I put 255/85R16 on my OR on my OR wheels and they rubbed! Had to go with 265/75R16. I'm curious to hear why so many are saying they aren't having rubbing but simultaneously aren't showing photos of this half turn. I suspect they don't realize they're rubbing or they've modified this critical first rub location... or my 2016OR is different somehow...

Like I showed photos of - yes - KO2s. And yes I did my homework! And yes I asked for more clarification. My research shows that 255/85R16 on an OR shows rubbing at the half turn which is counter to what others have said - thus my request to see photos and research a little further...

Update - maybe it's the mudflaps! I thought they were only adding 1/8" but maybe there's more there than I realize.

Thanks for the dialog y'all! Very helpful.

The first post has the wheels turned in one of those pictures. I think the difference is you've got the mudflaps and OP of that other thread doesn't. Plus extra armor maybe. I dunno! Just trying to help, don't have any direct experience (waiting on my stock tires to wear out)
