    Hey, what's up everone!

So, it's been a while since I frequented an auto forum, but, I'm excited to have a reason to again.

I've had my eye on the gen3 Tacos for a good while now, and have been needing a truck to make house projects a little easier.

I finally got proactive... flew out to Chicago and bought myself exactly what I wanted and drove it back to Denver (It was a bit of a present for myself having delivered a big program at work). It's a new 2022 Off Road MT in Lunar Rock, Premium and Advanced Tech packages.

I think I got a good deal at 3000 under MSRP and negotiated down a big chunk of the somewhat pointless Xzilon warranty (especially in my case, since I won't be driving it 1000 miles back to that dealership).

I'll probably keep the truck mostly stock for a while, but I have a few things in mind. If there is anything anyone would recommend, I'd love to hear opinions.

My first purchase for the truck is a Rexing V1P Pro Dual Dash Cam. Colorado has been filling up with degens, especially the last few years, so this was a necessity.

Otherwise, I'm looking to splurge on the following at some point:
    - Cat shield (same reason as above), thinking Talon at the moment. I have a front skid plate but it's the thin steel one so eventually will upgrade. May eventually deck it out with a full set of armor.
    - KDMax Pro tune. The truck is a breeze to drive, but have noticed some significant doggednish below 4K. I was hoping to have a little more response in the low end.
-A little extra clearance for wheelin. I wanted to get the OEM kit when I tried to get a truck allocated, but have some research to do still here.
-Been thinking of upgrading the roof rack. I have the OEM cornrows at the moment which I don't hate, but think they look a little goofy.
-Steps/sliders at some point but I havent done enough research in this area to know.

Anyways, glad to meet you all and can't wait to see what I can contribute!

    Alex

    Thanks for the welcome!

It was an adventure flying out to get it with no deposit, then drive it a thousand miles back, but yeah, absolutely worth it.

I think there were a few new 2022s up in that Chicago / Milwaukee area. I think interest rates and inflation are keeping people from buying the more loaded models, so it'd been sitting for weeks on their lot.

When I submitted my wishlist to dealerships in my area they told me that I was "looking for a unicorn". Allegedly, Toyota is allocating the large majority of 2023s as SR and Sport models (not sure if this is really that unusual) - I guess that's their sweet spot on the supply & demand curve at the moment.

Welcome! I’m not much help on suspension and off roading, but if you ever need anything electrical, feel free to give me a shout. I’m in Arvada, but for all practical purposes north Denver. As to the roof rack question, I know there are a lot to choose from, but at least take a look at UpTop Overland. They are some great guys and just down the road in Castle Rock.

    Awesome, much appreciated Johnny!
Thanks for the suggestion as well, always happy to support a local business.

I grew up in Arvada, so I know that area well!

I'd been finding that out west was slim pickins.

To be fair, the dealer had it advertised at 2500 off to begin with, as did a few in that area.

Had a few more port-installed doodads on it than I would have wanted, but for the price, I was still very happy. I was wondering when the buyers remorse was gunna hit me... still hasn't :)

Congrats on the purchase, I live in Alaska and couldn’t find a new OR. I had to settle for a used 2020, and drove it up from Florida .

Thanks! Holy smokestack Batman. Florida to Alaska makes my little trip seem like baby-town frolicks.

I'm starting to get the impression that I should be thankful for my timing!

    Happy Thanksgiving!

The drive was amazing. 10 days and 6,000 miles.
    Congrats on the purchase.

    Oh look, another mod....

Great looking truck and congrats on getting such a good deal on it. Get the dash cam & cat shield right away. They aren't 100% deterrents that you won't have something bad happen, but it'll give you piece of mind when it does.

I have both on my truck. Oh, and get underinsured/uninsured motorist coverage on your insurance, if you don't already have it. Just because you can prove someone is at fault in an accident won't mean shit unless they have insurance.

How cool! I've taken a few road trips up through the PNW and loved driving thought that part of the country. I've never been THAT far North, on land anyway (I was taken on a cruise when I was a child, but I don't really count that since I don't really remember much).

The stretch of country that I was driving through was not the most exciting scenery. Got it knocked out in one 16hr go, though.

Why, thank you, Borracho. Back atcha.

Good advise! Thanks for the pics. That Voodoo Blue and Cement colors have been favorites of mine also.

I think they switched blues after 2021, didn't they?

Yup, after 2021 the Blue switched to "Blue Crush" aka: Blurple. It looks like grape koolaid in most lighting. I've seen a few in person, and it looks like Grimmace or Barney the dinosaur.

VooDoo Blue is the best color made. Ever.

Thanks Bryan! I might just take a look and do that tomorrow. I think I have the supplies I need in the garage.

I've seen rumors that the MT might not be around after 2023. It was my #1 criteria when searching.

It seems I've begun to hoard them, since they are an endangered species. I've got an 06 Mazdaspeed6 collecting dust in my garage at the moment. This gal will probably get some more attention here soon hopefully.
