unless the internal plan at Toyota has changed, it was scheduled for 2012.

I wuld love a 4.7L option, but I don't think it will ever come. My mom has a 4.7L in her 4runner and when comparing it to the 4.0L its like night and day, but the 4.0L does everything it needs to do so we probably wont see the 4.7L ever.

my friend used to work for toyota, for corporate and was high up. however, in the email he didn't clarify calendar vs model year when he told me 2012. he did say something about the same engine that was in the fj. i'm dying for a diesel personally.

I highly doubt this on two facts alone. EPA standards are becoming more and more stringent on fuel mileage requirements and also the V8 option was pulled from the 4Runner.

No need, but it could definitely be put to use. And could very well improve real-world mileage.

I'm not arguing it isn't. I'm just saying I could use the option.

I could use the D-4D even more.

But neither will happen. All auto manufacturers in the US are moving towards higher output, smaller displacement engines, many of them with factory-solution FI (eco-boost anyone?).

The new Taco will have the dual-VVTi 1GR for the six cylinder. The four will remain unchanged, but perhaps get another cog in the tranny.

watch, if they do make a v8 you'll see people making threads and bitching on how their gas mileage sucks
